"Some advisors are quick to try and get your money sanctioned."

I told my advisor that was the thing stressing me out the most, getting santioned the minute you put a foot wrong and his response was "well that's our job!" and sniggered

I said "what to sanction people as soon as they put a foot wrong?" and he back-tracked and said "only joking only joking"

I knew he wasn't and even if he was he was a pr*ck to say it just to worry me - I'm afraid they put all the major Jobsworth types on these advisor positions

If you're a power hungry pr*ck you get to be an advisor - mine certainly is - all five foot four of him!

Yeah. That's why I'd never let them know that being sanctioned bothers me. I make it clear that I have my reasons for what has happened and if they won't to go through the bother of reporting me they can.

My first advisor tried it because I was a few minutes late as he said it was a missed appointment (even though I still saw him). He told me I should have rang. I told him I was driving and he still claimed I should have rang - I pointed out it was illegal, but he still just repeated himself. I appealed the decision and it went in my favour.

So he tried again, saying I missed an appointment that he never gave me. Again I won the appeal. Stupid thing is his claim conflicted with what he'd reported before.

You don't even have to put a foot wrong for them to report it. I wouldn't worry though, just keep proof of any bus tickets/car park tickets and appointment cards/letters etc. If you sign in when you go, as I do, then reception should keep a record of when you went and what time. Just basically make sure you can back up your claim no matter what they try.
  • I've been signed up for this recently after being given a shorter prognosis after my last esa50. Can I just clarify, it's ok for me not to sign these forms? There will be no sanctions placed on me for refusing to sign them?

    Thanks.
  • Oh and I'm appealing, will that mean they leave me alone whilst I appeal? I suspect not....

It is ok, you have every right to refuse to sign the forms given to you by the Work Programme. But do expect them to try and push you into it and to possibly argue with you and claim you have to sign it. Obviously they want you to consent to them being allowed to send your details to companies, contact employers if you are offered work and so on.

If it comes to it you could ask them to prove exactly where it states you must sign the documents. They may give you a load of paperwork or even point to exact points and claim that means you have to sign them though. It just depends what type of advisor you get.

If it did come to the wost you can appeal a sanction.

If they are pushy perhaps state you want to read the documents over at home in your own time and hope they forget about it lol.
  • Thanks. I've read a lot of websites saying not to sign them, but I've yet to find concrete evidence of people who haven't signed them. Maybe it's on this thread, it's very lengthy though, unsurprisingly.

I'm dreading the whole thing to be honest. I find it hard to believe I've even been referred there, hence why I'm appealing.

I signed them and then found out after that it was better not to sign them. However, you can say at any point that you no longer consent to it.

There is a thread of a certain WP elsewhere online where people haven't signed them. I imagine people have not signed with no problems, but it's the people who have had problems who are more likely to warn others on it lol.

Sorry to say, but I doubt the appeal will help as the JC are sending everyone there. Mostly the WP are just a waste of time which is annoying, but if you have a half decent advisor then there's nothing much to worry about.
