The Work Programme New Thread
Comments
-
Sorry if this has been mentioned previously, but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about any new work programmes starting up or anything that is happening after the 2 year work programme?
I heard about a year ago that there would be a new work programme that would be forcing people to work (manual labour) and also that people were being sent to a new company as the job centre was going to be going. Since then I haven't heard anything other than possibly having to go to the job centre daily.0 -

At present there is only one WP and probably we will all be sent back there after 6 mths at the jc againWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
manual labour as in building sites?

Not sure. I think certainly that would have been one option. Building sites, gardening, heavy lifting jobs etc. I was told about it while on a work placement programme. The guy basically said it doesn't matter what you want to do or can do they'll make sure you are working hard and working for your JSA.
There were also people who were sent elsewhere to sign on and they'd been told that the job centre would be closing and everyone else would be signed over to this new company. No idea if they still sign on there or whether they are back with the job centre now.
Thinking about it, I also read that the work programme I am at the moment on was being stopped as it was no longer being funded, but that doesn't seem to be the case.0 -

From this it looks like wp returnees are being put into 2 groups Mandatory Intervention Regime or Jobcentre Plus Offer if you have recent work experience/job ready.
I take it for those of us who volunteer we will be put on the JCP Offer ?
For those who have finished wp and had their post wp appointments have you been told what category you are in ?
The JCP Offer seems a bit like the old FND where you saw a JCP advisor every so many weeks until you were sent to do a year with a outside provider.
For those who consider themselves job ready but get put in the Mandatory Intervention Regime then in my opinion it is open to appeal this decision after all wasn't the 2 years spent on the work programme supposed to get us all to job ready level.0 -

Thanks for the link. My work programme advisor just said about possibly going to the job centre daily, he didn't go into any detail. I'm still going to be with them for almost another year though so I may be told more nearer the time, or of course it could have changed by then. I'd rather know sooner rather than later though and I was curious considering it's not what I'd heard previously lol.
As for which category, I'm about to start volunteering and I have volunteered previously so I guess I'd be under JCP offer.0 -

how can women do building work or older people???
Some women are great at manual labour. I wondered the same thing though. I would be totally useless at anything like that and I wouldn't be able to cope at all with that type of work. If it was, or still is, the plan they haven't thought it through properly or maybe there's more to it.
The guy who worked at the work placement programme was far too happy telling us how much we were all going to suffer though. However, I do believe that they got rid of that programme and left him jobless lol.
Still, if things like that are being considered it's very worrying.0 -

What women who come from an accounts background? I doubt it very much. I get a bad back just standing let alone doing manual work at my age lol
whats the work placement programme???
I never mentioned accounts. The manual labour was for all people out of work and on JSA. It's quite possible there is an accounts woman out there who missed her calling as a builderBut yeah, most people who are looking for admin and retail type jobs are probably looking for that because that's what they're good at, qualified for and like. Most are probably useless at manual labour. No one on my program, as far as I know, was looking for that type of work.
The work placement programme was a way of getting people into volunteer positions for a couple of months.
I have to admit, the volunteer admin position they got me worked out well for a while as I continued after the programme ended. However, they really tried to get everyone into retail positions and before getting any position it was about 6 hours a day everyday just job searching. You also had to still go there one day a week to job search even when you had a position.
From some research it seems there was one big company running it, but they split themselves into smaller companies and ran the programmes under different names. They all forced job searching and volunteer positions but they run each company a little differently. As far as I'm aware the main company is still going, but the smaller company I was under has gone now I believe.0
