It won't be at the jobcentre, they might have us signing weekly until they find us a "placement".

I would bet my last sixpence that it will be the same as the New Deal. time will tell, I'll be on it in a little over a month, I will report what happens on here.

What was the New Deal then?

Sitting in an overcrowded room, doing nothing other than looking for vacancies in out of date newspaper job sections for up to 30hrs a week! I kid you not!

The only bright spark for someone was if they got a placement of some kind!

Should've mentioned the PC's. On New Deal, the PC's were available but woefully out of date and often did not work! Oh, and clients were asked to look in the Yellow Pages for companies to apply to. Trouble was that the copies were two or more YEARS old!!!

New Deal and Flexible (flexible as in like a brick) New Deal preceeded the current WP. Sessions were not at the Job Centre but held at the offices of Working Links, A4e, BEST (Now Interserve), G4s, Serco, etc. New and Flex New Deal were infamously riddled with inefficiencies, lax standards, non-existent courses and poorly trained staff.

Little wonder that these very same providers, many of which are running the WP as well are making a hash of things there also.

Ok sessions held on the New Deal where BEFORE the WP so you have to take into account now there are already to many people at the WP and no room for them at my provider.

Yellow pages for a 30 mile radius? I doubt that. You would need all the yellow pages for all of London in my case which they will not have and getting random companies from them is useless as you can not get contact names and info from them like you can on the net

Also like I have said to do a 1 hr job search at the WP they have to book you on as they have too many people and not enough PC's so I really do not see how this will work at all

' non-existent courses and poorly trained staff. ' HAHA Very like the WP then? Non stop staff and system ERRORS!!!

Well, all I can tell you is my experience, take it or leave it. And actually, there WERE several Yellow Pages for different areas. As I said, they were just about all out of date.

And you're right about not being able to get a proper contact name or address. Unless you rang them up beforehand. Which made many local firms irate as they were simply getting the same calls over and over again!

When I was in my early 20's I was on job club pretty similar to all these FND and WP. On job club we were told that using the yellow pages and thompson local were a good way to find employers, there wasn't computers but there were phones which we used to find out who the personnel department, either that cold call companies or write spec letters to companies without any research.

We looked in newspapers which were delivered daily, was required to go at least 3 times per week and kept log of our replies yes I mean we actually got replies from the letters we had sent, either saying yes or no.
