Universal Credit
We are right back where we were with Maggies Poll Tax. The unemployed expected to pay 20% or more of the full tax with no other means than their unemployment benefits. The best of luck to the Town Halls & Councils, their prospects of collecting this revenue must be near to zero. That's a mirror of the Poll Tax days of extra fines imposed on people for not having enough money to pay in the first place.
The 4 pilots start this Sept with single people being the first to be called. Lets hope there is no spare bedroom tax to add to the pain.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. I just had a look through the rules for entitlement to claim universal credit. It would seem that under section 10 (Housing), you would not be entitle to claim if you own your home. Bad luck for any homeowner who get made redundant.
Housing Section 10.
The person must not—
(a)be homeless (within the meaning of section 175 of the Housing Act 1996(7)) and must currently reside at their usual address;
(b)reside in accommodation in which care, supervision, counselling, advice or other support services (other than services connected solely with the provision of adequate accommodation) are made available to them by or on behalf of the person by whom the accommodation is provided, with a view to enabling them to live there;
(c)own, or partly own, the property in which they reside.0 -
Ugh, A4E are doing my head in now. They do absolutely nothing to help me.
I go there once a month to see my advisor and this is usually how the conversation goes...
"How's your job search going?"
"Not good, or I'd have stopped coming here..." (I honestly don't know how they want me to answer this. That question grates on your nerves after a while as I'm sure you all know)
"Alright, well I'll book you in for your next visit in a month's time."
"Wonderful."
Not only are they useless, but they damn well ignore you.
I had to reschedule my appointment so I emailed my advisor. No response for a couple of days, so I went there in person. Made me wait around 15 minutes while he was busy chatting to the staff having a right laugh it seems. Finally decided to come over. Told me he got my email but was "very busy" so couldn't responded. Yeah, it sure looks like you're all busy.

that is better than being hassled all the time and still receiving no useful help. that is the experience with the provider here. believe me it is better to be largely left alone.0 -

OO what a thing to say lol.
Their not going to get their money though are they?
What surprised me was that Scotland and Wales are exempt from the bedroom tax and council tax changes. So its just us in England that are going to be shafted.
Apparently 5 million households are claiming HB.0 -

- I'm not thus far the person for that kind of discipline, but ;
- if they had a specialist division dealing exclusively with MPs' expenses and other slithering activities
- I'd be happy to change career, and would take delight from emptying their several palatial homes of expensive equipment
