So if you are not signing on how do they know you are looking for work?

30 hours is not all day every day. 8 hours a day for four days is 32 so its less than 4 days.

If its 5 half days they will get you to sign in the pm or am whatever time you are not 'working'.

I would still like to know how the WP or this thing is meant to get people jobs!

This thing will not even work as when I first went to the WP they said they were overloaded with people that the JC had sent them and they could not cope. How will this scheme work if all the people get put on it in one go!

    So stupid and so funny

You do have to sign on fortnightly and provide evidence of jobsearch to the jobcentre, and at the usual time. The guidance stated that it was down to the participant and the provider to come to some arrangement of how to fit in with their "community work". And it's not community work as in painting old people houses and such, it's more of the charity shop variety for 4 days a week (which usually turned out to be 1 day a week on average due to all the other "volunteers" being sent to the shop from Work Programme, MWA, etc.)

You are also meant to do 10 hours of supervised jobsearch every week at the providers premises, but infact it would be less than an hour as they just didn't enough computers or a decent enough internet connection to perform it.

Essentially, it's like the old New Deal, minus the training allowance, is for six months, and the supervision is even slacker;)

The dwp site says its 30 hours a week so I can not see how it will be one day in a charity shop and 10 hours supervised job searching. As if someone sitting with you will make it easier to get a job.

No one here at all and I mean the Gov and the DWP are not addressing the issue here. Companies are less keen to interview unemployed people. Until someone can change that no amount of 'work' or job search will get anyone a job.

I went on my first 1 to 1 wp meeting today.
    Advisor was late.
Meeting was held in 1 side of a community cafe with an office type screen to section us off.
Volunteer was interjecting into our meeting, chatting & raising a complaint about xyz.
Cafe staff was either making drinks, food or sat on a stool gazing out at us.
Customers were entering for cafe supplies or peering round the screen to see if wp staff were busy.
All this in view of shop window sotheycouldhave easily seen before walking in.

Wp mentor was a bit hit & miss. I amdure they know what they are doing but the whole set up really upset me.
Is it possible to request a change of venue, there are others but perhaps not with that advisor.

What the DWP say should happen is usually different from what actually happens.
Remember, the CAP is run by the same providers who run the Work Programme, and therefore falls under the "black box" model (i.e, the providers do as they please)

If thats the case my provider is not even in my borough and miles away so not local anything for the community at all.

Seems no one can find people jobs yet there will be hundreds of thousands of places on this CAP!! LOL

  • After how long of being on benefits does the work programme start? I was told a week ago that I would be on the work programme soon, and I have unfortunately been out of work for six months. I thought I had heard somewhere that it's after 12 months, does anyone know? Many thanks
  • I believe its 6 months if you're under 25, 12 months if over.....age limit may be wrong but certain theres an age limit that determines it
