Don't get me wrong I am sure there are loads of people the WP can help but I am not one of them and many contributors to this thread too. I can't see myself being on the WP for 2 years but never say never. If they can't help me from the get go then how are they ever going to help me apart from when I need copies of my CV when I have to apply via snail mail.

I even ask for retraining but have to have a job offer which requires the particular skill i need to retrain for, totally pointless and fruitless of me to keep asking. God help those who are younger than me, but then again anything that replaces it will be equally as bad.

I would love to know how many, and who, the WP has genuinely helped. From posts here, it seems more like a cat and mouse game, whereby WP provider is in it for making targets etc, sot the provider makes as much money as possible. It's a Government funded business, feeding off the misery of the unemployed.
Wanted a job, now have one.

My provider has helped a few people get 3 months work with an agency then back to square one, the only jobs they seem to be getting people are for temporary agency workers, good if you want a stop gap but I want something a bit more long term.

I cant say how many people the WP has helped but I ain't one of them and I get the same response from those I talk to when I'm at my provider.

well my appointment was at 4pm, it's a 10 min walk and 20 min bus ride to get home and I've been back in the house for 10 mins already.

Shows how long I was in this appointment for lol. (though I MUCH prefer it to the hours job search) I have to go back in 2 weeks for a similar appointment.

well, the jc i uses to go to now have a drop in box, so you just drop in your job searches every 2 weeks.

I actually waited to see the advisor longer than I was in with her, in fact I called into tesco on my way to the bus stop and I think I waited in line to be served than I was in the WP!

The point is that the unemployed must be "seen to be doing something" for their money and thats all the WP is, for show.

The staff at my WP are all lovely, I mean really really nice, friendly and as helpful as they possibly can be, but there are just no jobs out there atm and no funds for training etc so their hands are tied.

It has nothing to do with jobs. I apply for jobs every day but they can not make the company interview me hence the massive fail of the WP.

Been on this WP a year in 6 weeks time and only seen someone 5 times in that period.

I would have thought they act like an agency (as I was told) and go out there and get jobs and match them with people but it seems they do not do this.

No one has ever 'interviewed' with my CV and found out about me and what Ican do or why I lost my last job or anything like that. If I was running it I would have people who specialise in certain areas like, banking and accounts, retail, construction and engineering and so on but no one there is a specialistin anything.

My WP provider has a wall with the names of people they have got back to work. I call it the wall of shame, as it shows the WP isnt working, they have got about 30 people back to work in over a year. The office is packed with about 50 people, all day long, and my adviser has 400 clents on his books,so they arent doing much.

As for this proposed work for your benefits, I think they will have problems with Euro court over making people work a 30 hour week for 70 odd quid, it breaks the Govt's own minimum wage laws for a start.
