But you are ok to work here from any EU country but how would they know where you are from if they do not ask you to prove it? I could be from Bulgaria but I can't work here without a visa. I could just say I was from Poland or something. Or have a fantastic English Accent like someone I know who was born Australia. It's better to ask for all the documents.0

How would you doubt someone with an English accent though? I have always been asked for all documents to prove who I am and where I come from.0

Also it's not a jobsworth mentality at all. How many big firms have you worked for? Say ones with over 200 employees? I have worked at places when this came into play directors said to payroll they couldn't ask people who had been at the company a long while only to be faced with an inspection then when managers confronted staff they did a runner and then the company got fined.0 -
British employers cut back on hiring by a fifth last month.

Things are starting to get real nasty out there for professionals. Even
in my own field, Vacancies are down 28% this year alone. From the looks of it, I be spend the winter up here with four months of night and -35 temperatures. Instead of coming back to a Job in the Uk. Few people want to work here in the winter. Hences the vacancies.

Although we did do the catch up over the phone.0
