up at 1:53am? I beat that 6am. Now I'm up for work at 8am. Just watched NASCAR. My body will probably hate me in a couple hours. It's not good for metabolism, but I didn't care, last night's race was truly mental. Montoya crashing into a jet dryer and causing a huge fire!

  • Hi all,

    can I join too please????

I've just moved into my own place and without my mum or mrs around to cook for me I'm struggling a bit. Food has quickly become my biggest expense.

I was doing really well at keeping costs down by eating porridge and cereals with skimmed milk, but even the fat content in this set off my gallstones :( If anyone knows a fat free alternative to milk that I can use, please let me know! But otherwise I'm getting my head round it slowly. I find the supermarket "3 for £10" meat offers are brilliant, because if I roast off a chicken the meat will last me 4 meals & the the carcass and juices are boiled up with mushrooms for a quick soup that will make atleast 2 portions, so thats 6 meals from 1 chicken!!!! :)

  • You can make porridge with water - I do.

It's best when you leave the oats to soak overnight, then you just need to warm them through, as well, so no standing over it for five minutes stirring - just about 60 seconds of wooden spoon action and it's done (or a few seconds in the microwave).
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

does soaking the oats overnight stop the wall paper paste effect? every time iv tried using water it just turns to glue?

Sounds like you are either not adding enough water or you're boiling the wotsits out of it.

I usually do 2 parts water to one part oats. If you don't want it so thick, add more water. And heat it gently - that way you won't boil all the moisture away.

Stirring with a wooden spoon releases the creaminess as well. And bigger flakes have more texture than the dinky little fine ground ones.

(I originally started making it with oat milk until it dawned on me 2 weeks later that oat milk is made in exactly the same way. Never bothered after that)

  • Hello to the newbies

well had my pitta 'pizzas' yesterday. Yum. Will confess they turned out to be more like paninis than pizzas but were delicious.

I carefully sliced into them, put a thin layer of tomato puree and hot sauce. Layered thinly with sliced mushroom and spring onion and then carefully pushed some grated cheese inside. Popped it into a toaster bag and into the toaster. Really really good. Plus point is that pitta bread are cheeeaapp.

Managed to make it to the large outdoor market. Veg was much cheaper there but some of the quality was not so good. Gave up on the strawberries when I couldn't find a punnet without mould *yuk*

If anyone wants to try Graze (I love it) - you can get a free first box (and I get a £1 off my one) if you use this code when registering:

Easy to cancel after the first free box if you do not like it - I love my graze boxes and missed them really - had to cancel when lost the job and today my first one since.. December 2010. And really enjoying it :)

    How is everyone doing?

And why all my text comes in bold???? Grrr
