Well,lets see....
1. Maintain my weight-Before(12st 8lbs)- CURRENT (i keep hoovering around 8st 13lbs and 9st)--im 5" 8
2. Remind myself NEVER to get into debt again!--Continue spending CASH only!!
3. Set myself a challenge of saving £2,400/£50 a week-If i can achieve this by the end of the year, then anything is possible for me!
4. Start planning for 2012 Christmas! -(i was caught out at last week's 2011 christmas!)
5. IF i see something that i like in a shop, sleep on it and if im still not sure about it,sleep on it some more!
6. Sell my old trousers on ebay.Unfortunately, i wear extra long trousers and because of this,it does cost me alot of money to buy them. So,why not sell the ones that dont fit me anymore....
7. More importantly-Continue having date nights every fridays with OH-:smileyhea0 -
My main goals are:
1) Add just over £5k to the ISA to get to £15k
2) Lose that stubborn extra half a stone or so to get back into my better jeans (currently stuck in the much tattier ones as I can't get in anything else!)
3) In line with that, stop eating so much crap and do more exercise
4) Make own lunch to take to work and stop wasting money on nice but unnecessary lunchesISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -
Also vitamin D supplements are supposed to helpDon't use sun beds!! You might be trading SAD for skin cancer down the line. Get a light box instead - here's a good one:

And a one-off investment in that light box would surely be cheaper than using sunbeds all winter.

Hi
I was going to make the title of this thread: New Years Resolutions but then decided most of these are usually forgotten in a few weeks; so change the title to the above.
What will you change in 2012? Mine are as follows:
1) Pay off credit cards. Although they are both 0% APR and not high debts, they are hanging around and i want rid so i can say i am debt free. Made a start today; as got fed up waiting for statement date.
2) Lose weight. Yep; i say it every year and start off well. But 2012 is the year i want to definitely lose weight; 3 stone to be exact. Will be starting in January after all carp has gone out of the house. If i don't buy it then i don't eat it!! Going to join the lose 2 stone in 4 months thread so i am accountable to you lot!!
3) Stop eating crap. This goes along with number 2 really. But why oh why do i eat so much rubbish! And then feel awful about it afterwards. As above
4) Go to the gym more. Membership is paid for the year and i really need to start making better use of it. Currently go twice a week but really need to go 4 - 5 times per week. Will be starting this while i'm off work at christmas. Hopefully then i won't put on weight over christmas. Made a good start; have been 4 times over christmas period. I really need to keep this up as this is my 'me' time and i do feel so much better for going
5) Stop wasting so much money on food. Food that ends up getting thrown out because it's not been eaten. What a waste. Made a start on this as didn't do much christmas food shopping (apart from christmas day lunch) and ate from freezer
6) Be more organised around the house. Why do i put off jobs until they become 'big' jobs instead of keeping on top of them. Would be so much easier. Then i wouldn't end up with an 'ironing' mountain. Umm, not made a start on this one yet.
7) Organise my time better. Stop wasting hours doing nothing. This will help with some of the other goals above - Umm, not made a start on this one yet. Been lazy with my time off work!
Phew...... Seems like a lot there. But these are all things i get really annoyed with myself about; so i must change them

Just a quick update from me. Made a start on some of them and the rest will definitely be started in New Year.
Hope you all had a great christmas and i'm really looking foward to my challenges for 2012.MFW 2025 #50: £1989.73/£600007/03/25: Mortgage: £67,000.00

Right, here we go.....
- Stay debt free
- Get the divorce finalised - have the nisi, only the absolute to go
- Get the not to be touched savings up to at least £4000, currently at about £3100
- Save enough to pay for one of the insurances outright by putting away a few pounds a month
- Get the living room decorated by saving the cash and not using a credit card - currently have £650 saved
- Redecorate the spare bedroom - paint, curtains, bedding and a little bit of new furniture
- Sort out a new car - current lease ends in July
- Get emergency savings up to about £500 (currently at about £100)
- See if I'm due any tax back
- Do something with the garden - its a right state
- Think about a holiday in the summer
The initial effort will be focussed on finalising the divorce and decorating the living room.
When I think about it 2011 was a bit of a pivotal year - my job contract was made permanent, I got promoted, I became debt free, I separated from OH and subsequently started divorce proceedings, I've had to rejig everything to be able to cope financially on my own, turned 40 and I'm still here to tell the tale!:j
I'm hoping to become a fabulous 40 and glow with health and happiness - there's more to life than money (but it certainly helps!) and its time to focus on my wellbeing, friends and family and devote more time to me.0 -

Very true! Even in summer, for general health (especially in this country as compared to sunnier ones).0 -
For me it will be....( hopefully)
1) Although my debts are manageable i would like to continue making my over the minimum payments to everything i owe to bring it down, A loan finishes in January so i want to use those payments towards something else rather than it just disappear
2) Seems 3 is the magic number for weight loss and thats what i want too. ive put on 4 stone in 2 years recently found out i have underactive thyroids, low metabolism and polycystic overaries which probably added to it.
3) Included in the above is my daughter is carrying a little extra weight, shes only 13 and still growing but want to make sure she doesnt suffer so me and her will do more things together regarding getting in shape.
4) After 10 years of being too scared to go to the dentist i recently had toothache, so like a big girl i went on friday
In january i have to go every friday for some treatment and im bricking it, she tried to do an x ray and i have a terrible gag reflex so she couldnt do it so i need to be a big brave girl and get on with it.
5) Stop smoking, i lost both my parents this year with 5 months between them although smoking wasnt the cause of their deaths they both had copd/coad and at 65 and 66 it was far too young to lose them.
6) Finally and probably my biggest one. I have been in a relationship for 2 yrs with a battling alcoholic, Its a long story but basically he has moved out into a hostel waiting to go into rehab, but times are hard and my love and support is fading fast because of the upset it causes. I need to have a long long hard think about my future and whether he can ever get better and beat that nasty tramp juice he drinks or if my life will be destined to come second to it all the time. He gets sober for a couple of weeks and then down it goes again. I am sympathetic but im only 37 and i have a life ahead of me i need to start living.
Whoa! You have been through an awful lot and are a really brave lady:T
My respect to you .... what you are going through puts the rest of us in the shade:D
Is there anyone you can take with you to the dentists so you can hold their hand when you are really frightened? If not I appreciate you will have to carry on by yourself - a pity you can't take your daughter as I expect you would be brave in front of her... Your dentist should be able to treat you knowing you are afraid as a lot of dentists have appropriate training for this as long as you explain it to her - nothing to be ashamed of as its surprisingly common.
With giving up smoking I would get help, but not just from your GP. Where I live there is a community programme called 'Quitters'. You can get help from a group that meets regularly or a one to one meeting with someone - you may only need to look up quit smoking support groups in your area on the computer to find it...
I can see you are rooting for your daughter in wanting to help her weight loss - good for you - parents don't often get a thumbs up:)
I don't know about you but I am a single parent, and I would love to share some of the anxiety and the not knowing-what-to-do-for-the-best that keeps us awake at nights. It doesn't sound like the alcoholic relationship has supported you over the years - in fact it has added to your burden:(
How right you are to try and get away from it - however if this person does truly start to think of others outside his own problems (as alcoholics and drug users are so focussed on themselves) then maybe there is some point in carrying on if they are not dependent. As you have your own health worries you certainly can't afford to take on theirs, would be my view.
Regarding your debts, it sounds like you have definitely got these under control with your plan to pay off more on others once you have cleared off some which are due to end shortly - this is also what I will be doing as I have a 5 year debt finishing in March:T so payments can transfer to an 8 year one:eek: Its funny how debts are a lot more manageable than people or health, I suppose they are more predictable and almost easier to get to grips with!
I have gone on too long but I wish you and your daughter all the luck in the world in 2012 - it sounds to me that you have the strength to carry those things through, even though you feel afraid sometimes:)'Bird bird, bird is the word'Long Haul Supporter's Thread no.269The RamonesPresent debt £224365.56Debt free June 2016

For me it's:
1) Get back on MSE! I was really active a long time ago on a different username. Couldn't face using that name again.... So I aim to do my bit to be supportive to others on here when they're feeling down.
2) Keep believing. We've done the worst of our storm, but there's a long way to go. It's going to get bumpy along the way - so I aim to stay positive and be as supportive as I can to my OH...who's been a rock for me when I was down.
3) Grow as much food in the garden as I can. I experimented with a few things last year...I didn't kill anything (to be honest it was quite easy) and it was worth the effort (only spent £25 for the year as well!). Not going to go mad, but doing the garden last year provided a moment of peace when our storm was raging. Plus I need the exercise (see 4).
4) Get exercising! Enough said really...
5) Keep looking for savings. Still can't get over how low the weekly shop is when we go to Lidi's or Aldi's. Look for bargins, keep doing survey's, put the pennies in a jar.....lots of little things add up to big things!0 -
