Ulster Bank charges (merged)

  • I'm totalling up my Ulster bank charges for 2006 and so far it totals £255 with interest. This is the one I'm confident about pursuing.

I've been lamped with an A/C overdrawn charge of £430 from Jan 2007 to now - I couldn't get round to closing the A/C and Ulster bank slapped a £30 charge on my current and ISA each time as a result. They're basically saying unless I make alternative arrangements to pay them this back by 12/4/2007 they're gonna take action (court if necessary) and will file a default. They say they'll let Callcredit, Equifax and Experian know of this debt.

My question is this: should I request Ulster bank simply write this one off as the charge is an illegal charge anyway? Or should I lump this charge in with my 2006 charge list? They haven't taken money from me for 2007 as there's no money in the A/C for them to anyway.

    Advice would be appreciated.

They wont 'write it off'. Add this charge to the list of charges and proceed as usual :)
  • Hi all. I have just sent off my 1st letter to ulster bank asking for a list of all my bank charges. I included a cheque for £10 in the letter. The thing I need to know is, I sent the letter and included both my account numbers as I have 2 accounts. Will they send me the charges list for both accounts?? Also, has anyone on here claimed successfully back from the ulster bank?

Not many specifically from the Ulster Bank but there is an NI thread and have a read of this website regarding the court system in NI.

and yes one cheque and one letter for both your accounts will do

i've just successfully claimed back from Ulster Bank for £856 Started the Claim in November, they tried to fob me off with a £250 "goodwill gesture".

instead of using the court process, i used the Financial Ombudsman Service, who were great and i received the remaining balance a couple of days ago. If you use the FOS please keep all your correspondence and ensure that you have a final repsonse letter from the bank as the FOS wont investigate without the bank making it clear that they are not investigating your complaint further.

hope this helps and good luck

Yea Titch is have been having the same problem with the Ulster Bank, sent the first letter to them asking for my default charges on the 26/02/07, I then rang them at the start of April to see if they had received my letter and they said they had but it would take time to sort out. I waited over the 40 days and sent them another letter on the 20/04/07 giving them 7 more days to send my default charges or i would report them to the Information Commissioner, as yet nothing, so I have the letter sitting ready to post on Monday the 30th of April.

Keep fighting my friend has been fighting with them from nov 06 and should be paid out this week for a nice sum of £3,500. If u havent got ur statements keep phoning them dont give up. Ulster Bank have now set up a special department for to deal with all this so we must be getting through GOODLUCK
