Hi everyone,
I have been trying to get my fiancee's charges from the Ulster Bank for about 3 months now. The last letter I sent to them was the one where I ask for the actual amount which was £366 and they sent a letter back to us which I found was quite amazing. Here it is in full :
"Thank you for your letter requesting a refund of charges. However, as no fee was enclosed and the appropriate wording missing, we will not be refunding any of these charges at this time.
We hope this is satisfactory"
Now, two points about this
1. What is the "fee" they are referring to? We already paid the 10 quid to get the statements. Is there another "fee"?
2. What wording is missing? I used Martins sample letter (without claiming interest - however in this letter I noticed it says ") and after looking through various threads on this forum i have yet to see any other bank use this rubbish as an excuse.
3. Another point is regarding Maritns letter. The letter on the article under Sample Teplate Letter (without claiming interest) states this :...."I intend to claim the full amount claimed together with interest up to the date of judgement".
If it is linked under a heading (without interest) why does it say on the letter I am claiming interest. Maybe this is why UB rejected our claim on the grounds "the appropriate wording missing"?
So, we are in a wee bit of a pickle now. What is our next course of action?
Any advice will be hugely appreciated.

It's very peculiar. If it was me I would just ignore their letter and now decide whether to go the small claims court route or the financial ombudsman.0

Well, thank you all. I filled in the claims online. so now let's see how the reply goes. I'll let you all knowthe outcome!0

I am dealing with my girlfriends claim from Ulster Bank,
We have (eventually) recieved the six years statements, and gone through them and compiled a list of charge date / amount / type of charge and sent this detailed list and a letter requesting the charges to be repaid.
Today just after the 14 days we gave them to reply to this, we got a letter stating that they will need more time to investigate the claim (up to 8 weeks!!) and in the meantime they suggest we send the statements back to them with the charges highlighted! even thought we included a detailed list of charges / amount / dates etc with the last letter. The letter says if they do not recieve the statements within the next 10 days they will assume we have nothing to send.
Should we ignore this time wasting request for information we have already given them, and wait up to 8 weeks more for them to 'pretend to investigate' (As all records are electronic, its an insult to our intelligence to expect us to believe that it will take them 8 weeks to run a report on their database.. what a load of %&££"!!) or should we proceed with the next letter (Threaten to take it to court)
thanks for the help!0 -

Send them the second “Letter Before Action” letter.
<O:p</O:pAt this point, you have to decide between referring your claim to the Financial Ombudsman and starting court proceedings.
If you don't think that you could successfully handle a court claim, or can't afford the court fees and aren't eligible for fee relief, then the Financial Ombudsman is an alternative. It is free of charge and handles everything for you. They charge the bank involved £400 for each complaint they accept. However, they cannot award interest like a court. Their success rate is good but, if the Financial Ombudsman is unsuccessful or the settlement is unacceptable, you can still start court proceedings.<O:p</O:p
If you threaten to refer your claim to the Financial Ombudsman, give them until 8 weeks from the date of your first letter to reply. However, if the reply either suggests that you now refer your claim to the Financial Ombudsman or says a definite no, then you can refer your claim to the Financial Ombudsman straight away. If you have not received any reply for the 8 weeks, you can then refer your claim to the Financial Ombudsman.
If you threaten to start court proceedings, give them 14 days to reply. If you have not received an acceptable reply by your deadline, then start court proceedings on Money Claim Online. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
