Hello everyone
I had already my statements. Sent the 1st letter-asking for my money-got a reply within the 14 days- no you're not getting it,enclosed was the financial ombudsman leaflet if I wanted to take it further.
Then sent the 2nd letter, within the 14days got a reply saying it would take 5-6wks for them to look into it. I had to send them copies of my statements with the charges highlighted-even though they had the list of charges and what they were. They said they would refund the cost of the photocopying or postage. I was waiting until today as this is when the 8wks were up from the day they would have received my 1st letter and then I was going to post all details to the financial ombudsman tommorrow.
I got a letter from them Saturday-opening it I thought they were fobbing me off to the financial ombudsman because the leaflet was enclosed again and when reading through the letter it was looking that way but when I scanned further down 3/4 of the page-they offered me full payment-I'll give it to you rounded to the nearest hundred -£1700.:T :T :T
I have signed the acceptance letter and posting it special delivery today-they say the money will go directly into my account. They also say I am not to give any of these details to any 3rd party;) and if I do not accept these charges in the future, they will review my account and possibly offer a simple one with no services that can result in charges.0 -
Did it take much letter writing to get money off Ulster Bank ?
I'm about to go after them for £1850 if they refuse do you recommend Ombudsman or Court ??0 -
I sent the 2 letters as per the template letters on the steps for reclaiming and thirdly, then I sent the copies of the bank statements with the charges highlighted.
If I hadn't received an offer letter from them by the 8 weeks from the day they received my first letter. I was passing it on then to the Financial Ombudsman.0 -
I'm kind of new to all this on-line stuff but I have so many questions about Bank Charges.
1/ We wrote to Ulster Bank (twice) to reclaim his Bank charges and they have not replied to us, now what do we do?
2/ Secondly and possibly more importantly, 6 1/2 years ago I had to file for Bankruptcy due to hideously high bank charges on a small business account. The insolvency service was involved and I ended up having to pay approximately £34,000 - I only ever owed approximately £20k but that included interest from the Bank. The actual money I owed the Bank and creditors (before flaming interest and charges) was about 8k. So I managed to get lumbered for a 34k debt when I physically owed 8k! What the hell happened and can I do anything about what happened so long ago. Trouble is I had to put all that on our mortgage and it is crippleing us. CAN SOMEBODY HELP?0 -
Hi, we are trying, without any joy so far, to reclaim over 9000 pounds in only 5 years from Ulster Bank. After our initial letter they replied with the usual mumbo jumbo that their charges are transparent and fair and would therefore not be refunding myself or my hubby. We then wrote the second letter telling them if they didnt refund us we would be taking them to court. That was at the start of June. We gave them two weeks and they still havent replied. Can anyone tell us what to do now and should we continue with the stay on reclaiming or does that even matter with this bank. Also in Northen Ireland small claims only goes to 2000 pounds so do we have to actually use a solicitor and pay for it? And finally I have heard that it is illegal for the banks to take charges from benefits paid into accounts. Both my husband and I are disabled and unfortunately all we live on is benefits and the 1st two weeks in june the Ulster bank took 210 pounds out of our accounts in charges. What can we do? Any help anyone??0

My sister was owed just over 2000 back from UB and they kept refusing so she put it into small claims but had to drop to 2000 exactly because thats the limit small claims in NI deal with. She got a court date and was absolutely petrified. But she went and when she entered the waiting area a man dashed up to her asked her name told her his he was a solicitor for UB he explained they would not be entering court she was getting her money back he gave her something to sign and 2 weeks later the cheque arrived in the post.SO DO NOT WORRY ABOUT COURT THEY REALLY ARE ONLY TRYING TO FRIGHTEN YOU AND PUT YOU OF. GO FOR IT AND GOOD LUCK!!0

I had read the info to reclaim bank charges, sent my letter and cheque requesting my charges for the last 6 years to my bank (Ulster Bank Ltd) on 25/07/07 only to find that they returned it to me on 04/08/07  They just returned my letter, didn't provide any explanation about why it had been returned. So now i don't know what to do - should i send them another letter returning the original and requesting the documents again??? I need help - Has anyone else had a similar problem - what did they do?
Thanks0 -
Did they return the cheque? I'd send another letter stating they have 40 days to provide the information from "insert date you assume they received your letter" and if they don't provide it within that time you'll report it to the ICO and the FO.0

Yea, they returned both my letter and the cheque in an envelope.
There was no letter of anything explaining why they had returned it or if they were going to provide any information.
Thanks, i will try writing to them again. Should i send my letter to my branch or their headquarters? (sent it to my branch last time!)0 -
I got my refund from the Ulster Bank about 3 weeks ago. Today I recieved a letter in the post with an attached page about accepting an offer or declining an offer. This offer is dated the 9th August and is £400.00 less than what my origianal settlement offer was for. It askes me to sign the page if I accept it and send it back too them. Whats going on???Winnings 2009: Rimmel Pro Lycra Nail Polish.
