  • Which world do you live in that thinks drug dealers give receipts.....OMG

Apparently not one that involves the knowledge of how drug dealers operate - thank God.

  • Frazzled,

Wow, what a lot to go through before Christmas (bet dinner was a breeze after all that!)

As a teacher I dread this happening to the kids I teach and I cannot imagine the fear it must have caused you. I think have you been brilliant, your son must have been in pieces and you have helped and supported him completely. He has been through such a lot and I think that can make you do/think stupid things.

I say well done and wish you and your family all the best for 2012

  • Frazzled, my heart goes out to you - I am 54 and my son is now 18 but we found out he was doing 'weed' two years ago through my snooping, and as someone else said, steel your heart, because they will tell you lies. 'Everyone is doing it' - he has said this so many times, but I don't know any other parents who are worried, no-one else has ever confided in me that they are worried about their child doing drugs, it is just me. He spent about £500 in six months and admitted to us he was dealing in order to afford to buy it. He wouldn't tell us names or addresses as he was terrified once we found out. We have told him we do not want him to do weed/horse tranquillisers/the latest plant food whatever it is - I've also told him I will ring the police if I find any drugs or smell any weed in our house or his halls of residence. He now drinks vodka which I now realise is 40% proof. Check your xmas drinks cabinet - we suspect our son has been at our hard stuff but as we hardly touch it cannot be certain.

I am so glad your school have supported you - ours were turning a blind eye. My son failed his AS levels after year one, started the two years again, and failed again. Had to take him out of school this February.

I only wanted to say that if your son seems depressed, nauseous, fatigued even when you know he has stopped it might be something else - I eventually made my son have a blood test and he has a non-malignant condition called Gilbert's syndrome which many young people seem to be suffering from - it's just two missing enzymes in the liver. Makes alcohol difficult to process, painkillers etc. Our son started doing weed when he got the diagnosis Christmas 2009 - two years later we are still battling with him over it and constantly telling him that his behaviour is being affected etc.

Good luck and I would recommend 'Sorted' if you are in the north - also family counsellors for you and your husband, although mine told me 'your son has chosen his path, and as a young adult, there is nothing you can do about it'.

  • Sorry to hear of your troubles but its good it has come out now and that your son has confided in you befre the problem became worse. I woulndt consider paying the dealer as a solution as what he is wanting payment for in my understanding is for the drugs ?If it is just for the drugs and not something else ( just making sure ! ) then I would report him - can be done anonymously and ensure your son stays away from him. Im sure with your support he will stay away from him. I know there is an element of fear involved but paying him back will just allow him to abuse more vulnerable people and we know that drugs leads to prositution and violence and all sorts. Do your bit to protect other young people and report him.
There are also great places you can go for counselling - Oasis trust is one. Call your local council they can give you details of places in your area and so can your GP surgery - you can remain anon if you wish. Then just focus on the other debts with the help of the management plan people.
    Good luck.
