Had this last night in Tesco.

This woman (call her A and she must come in often because the staff knew her) positioned herself right in the way and ended up with a small trolley full of reduced meat (30p each). I managed to get some steaks before she grabbed them.

I had to laugh when this woman (call her B)thought that the trolley must belong to Asda because it was too full of reduced stuff and started going through it. Of course woman A jumped on it very quickly and said oi this is mine. Felt sorry for woman B though after because the reducing staff had just reduced some pork and woman B started reaching for it and woman A just shoved her out of the way and added the pork to her mountain of meat which left woman B with nothing.

Not very MS but I rarely bother looking at the reduced items for this reason. I used to work on the deli counter at a supermarket and it was shocking what went on. Ancient meat or meat that had been accidentally dropped on the floor would be packaged up and reduced. I expect I was an awful employee in their eyes as I'd chuck away the unfit meat and would gladly serve up the fresher meat at the bottom of the pile rather than lie to the customers by saying "it's that colour because the lights bleach it".

Still, as the people who used to buy the reduced meat were the ones willing to push others round to get it, I didn't feel all that sorry for them.

I do wonder where they keep all these reduced items?? I wouldn't have enough space in my freezer!
  • I shop once a week in my local co-op and try to get there around 1.30 -2pm by which time they have usually done the second reduction.

Its within walking distance and out of town so its never really busy, and the r2c section is always quite full. A couple of weeks ago I picked something up and the assistant actually offered to reduce it further as he was just about to do them.

In addition they publish 2 weeks vouchers each month in our local free magazine for £6 off a £30 spend, so whilst the co-op are generally more expensive, coupled with r2c this does make for quite a saving.
    We can't find you now
But they're gonna get the money back somehow
    And when you finally disappear
We'll just say that you were never here

Dont know why but peple go into a different mode and go all protective over whoopsies.
  • I had this the other day in Tescos, it was the afternoon so the reductions weren't massive but there was lots of different stuff.

I patiently waited my turn and then started looking through things. After 30 seconds or so I decided not to bother with anything and turned around to find some woman to my left, right up close in my face, with her trolley put across me blocking the rest of my way out.

She didn't seem to even notice! Maybe she thought I was reduced too.

I was in M&S with my dad a little while ago when they were reducing the dessert section - chocolate desserts down to 10p each. A woman who'd been hanging around waiting for the assistant to reduce the items took the whole tray of desserts - must have been about 20 individual desserts. I don't think I'd have the cheek.

    My dad was livid.

If she wasn't rude or ignorant about it then nothing wrong with that:)

Some might consider it selfish and grasping.

Others will find it perfectly acceptable behaviour.

    I blame Thatcher. :D

I can see both points of view tbh. But personally I don't have a problem with it. It's annoying if you wanted one and too late, but everything in there is a first come first serve. I doubt people batter an eyelid if they take the last tin on peas or bag of pasta or something.
