Well, this must be an Asda issue.

I tend to shop in Tesco and Sainsbury locally and they seem to reduce items by next to nothing.

I often stop by for a look and I do most of my shopping between 9 and 10.00pm and I have wondered why they bother with some of the paltry reductions.

Case in point, Tesco seafood medley, Normally £2.69 each, on offer at 2 for £5. One pack in the reduced section on its "Sell by" date for £2.55. Therefore still better value to buy two normal packs, both with a longer shelf life.

The worst ones I've seen are the customers that fill their trollies with items reduced to half price knowing its getting to the time when everything's getting reduced to 10p, then when someone starts reducing everything that's left they go charging over and get the colleague to reduce everything in their trolley taking 10/20 minutes scanning and re reducing each item one at a time, if they don't reduce it for them it just ends up dumped on a aisle end or stacked up on a shelf, always seems to be a bigger issue on Sunday when time to sell through is limited.

I had a good old giggle with a tesco reducer, she was stood with her trolley and gun whilst some old dears were pushing and shoving to get their mitts on a pie. I, on the other hand, was eyeing the top shelf (old dears are too short to see) and spotted some very juicy looking steaks. The employee spotted me eyeing them up and pulled out 3 packs from under her trolley and handed them over; 6 Venison steaks for a royal £2.50! I was very grateful to her and we both stood laughing at the mob. I left them to it and came back round 10mins later, not a dear in sight and the whole shelf to myself filled with 10p goodies :)
    £20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**

Like most here I am always on the look out for a bargain.
However I can't help feeling that supermarkets, instead of reducing items, should give them to the really needy. People who are homeless, on very low income and even local hospices would,I am sure, welcome this food.
I appreciate that there are health and safety issues, but these could be overcome.

Some people can be so rude. All you need to do, though, is invade their personal space in the same way - as if they aren't there. Try to walk through them, push them out of the way, reach across their face to grab something, putting your armpits by their nostrils.

If they don't back off, you can move on to advanced tactics: examine items in their basket/trolley and put them into yours, take items out of their hands, etc. If they look like they're about to object, remember to smile and thank them for their assistance. That'll confuse them and diffuse any aggression while they try to work out if you really are completely mental and whether they're in any danger - they know the usual rules don't apply to crazies!

For extreme situations, and as a pre-emptive strike to ward off repeat attacks, lick them on the side of the face and say "Mmmm...." as you nonchalantly stroll away.

If you ever see them again, I can guarantee that they won't come anywhere near you. You might even hear a shriek as they run in the opposite direction. Do it often enough, and entire crowds will magically part in front of you, giving you easy access to the reduced items shelves...

This is gold, thankyou! I was laughing too loud for this time of the morning. :T
A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.
It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.
A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.

Christ. Fair enough, we're living in difficult times but some people need to maintain a bit of dignity!

I remember once watching a woman with a bloke in a wheelchair...he sat in his wheelchair and blocked off the entire shelf while she raided it and filled her trolley with as much as she could, leaving sweet f all for everyone else...he just sat facing everyone who was waiting with a smug, proud look on his face!

    Yeah I know

Had this in tesco the other day, pushed my dd in wheelchair close to the reduced bit so she could see what was on offer. Some old bag managed to position herself between DD and reduced stuff, then bent down, which left her fat 4rs3 in DD's face. Worse bit was, she thought it was fine to do this. The mind boggles

  • You can't get close to the reduced shelf or chiller in my local morrisons, you can't even get down the aisle because the block it with their trolleys!

If it happened to me I would just manoeuvre the "offender" back to where they were and take up my original position all the while talking to my imaginary friends. You know things like "No Tim I will not kill tonight Ive told you before!!" "No John I don't think they are rude bullies" ect ect followed by some heavy breathing and counting out loud to 10. As a previous poster pointed out let them think you are "crazy" like them and they will wilt into the background.
