Maniacs at the reduced bit in supermarkets!

What is it about the reduced bit in supermarkets that turns people into rabid animals?
Was in Asda yesterday and walked over to the reduced bit. Stood behind a couple of people and patiently waited my turn. A space cleared so I moved forward and rummaged through to see if there was anything worth buying. I had only been there about 30 seconds tops, when I felt a pair of hands on my hips, which then tried to force me out the way.
At first I thought it was my FIL, so calmly turned round to look, only to find it was some balding fat idiot with a look of absolute desperation and determination on his face, who then proceeded to stand where I was originally stood, and rummage through everything like a complete and utter maniac.
So I spoke up for once, and said "erm...excuse me?! You don't shove people out the way! Haven't you ever heard of saying excuse me?!" He went "heh. you were taking forever." So I said I'd been there for 30 seconds max and he should wait his turn just like everyone else has to! He then mumbled a load of gobsh*te at me and I commented about how it's so disgusting that people have no manners in this day and age and think it's their god given right to go touching women and shoving them around.
Wish I'd smacked him round the head with some reduced cheese

Haha, you lucky sod! Thing is, it wasn't even busy! There was literally just me and 2 other people there. A bit of rude, animalistic behaviour would be expected if there were a huge gang of people all crowded round pushing and shoving each other, but he couldn't even wait another 30 seconds...then he probably would have had the whole shelf to himself anyway! People are craaaaaaaazy!0

Christ. Fair enough, we're living in difficult times but some people need to maintain a bit of dignity!
I remember once watching a woman with a bloke in a wheelchair...he sat in his wheelchair and blocked off the entire shelf while she raided it and filled her trolley with as much as she could, leaving sweet f all for everyone else...he just sat facing everyone who was waiting with a smug, proud look on his face!0 -

I used to have to reduce the stuff in my last job (not big shop, just a somerfield sized shop) sometimes you'd have the usual suspects hanging round you like flies to........
When our store was getting taken over by another company all the fresh got reduced and it was mayhem, people leaning over you, pushing you out the way, just being generally greedy. people shouting at you that the stuff wasn't reduced enough (there was nothing wrong with the food, the new company just wanted it rid) was horrible0 -
