Diabetic Freebies?
Comments

OMG Elliebell. The poor guy has just explained what he meant and you have just torn him apart for actually making a point that was in support of people who are unfortunate enough to suffer from diabetes.
Do you have some kind of personal vendetta against noobs?
Lighten up for heavens sake **********************************************************************

Not sure what type of freebies you are looking for, any particular?
As said all diabetic stuff should be provided for you but that said it is nice to recieve freebies:D my son has type 1 and uses an accucheck monitor which entitles him to join the accu-check teams, this is for kids up to teens.
You collect your chips from the monitor and redeem them for free cd's, dvd's, games, books etc, all u pay is 1 pound postage for each item, also a prize draw to enter.
He will also get a free 5 day break with diabetes uk, normally costs 320 pounds but his local diabetes group fund this, this is a holiday for diabetics, an activity week.
My son has had freebies from his diabetic clinic, they have given away, covers for blood monitor, pens, diary and he got a football calender too.
Try looking in your balance mag for freebies/offers, will keep a look out for any freebies for u though.

Right found this, dont know if it applies though but helpful anyway
Medic alert offer braclets/jewellery with your medical details on them, normally pricey but they do offer sponsership, ie for people on low incomes which means free membership.
Heres a bit from their website:
""As a registered charity, MedicAlert
can provide free or subsidised
membership to individuals on a
limited income. Please contact our
Membership Services Department on
freephone 0800 581 420 for details.""

Actually Elliebell, I think it's *you* who are not getting the point. I read the
post from alinshearah to be "outrage" that diabetics feel they need to search for free stuff, because the NHS should be delivering everything they need, rather than them playing on their condition to get stuff for free.
And you're right of course - diabetes is not an ilness. But not everyone has a great deal of knowledge of the subject, and to be honest, you'd be far better off taking a less aggressive tone towards those who don't know and telling them a bit about it rather than getting someone's back up over the misuse of a term.
I probably would have called it an illness before it came into our house and I learned a whole lot more about it than I ever wanted to have to know.0 -

If during the wee hours you may have noticed that the so called "Poor Guy" had just signed up to MSE and was just generally posting spam and crap across any threads he could. He was not being helpful at all, he was asked on several occasions to stop being abusive and to stop posting what where just meaningless comments.
I hope that that may give you some indication why the lady had become frustrated with him.0 -

Not really. I was also up in the wee hours and did notice that he had posted alot of threads. I also noticed that Elliebell had done similarly. I spent 15 minutes or so trying to find posts she had claimed were offensive or spam
I thought this site was for freebie posts. I never realised there were limits on how many freebie posts you could add so it's hardly surprising the newbie didn't.
Just because Elliebell didn't find his threads useful or comments meaningful, it doesn't warrent starting a personal vendetta against a newbie to the site.
A good quantity of posts typed on this forum are meaningless waffle. If we all commented on what we found meaningless the entire board would become a "I think the preceding post is meaningless" board with people constantly throwing their bottles out of their prams :rotfl:
Being a little more tolerant and a lot less judgemental might be a better approach........or maybe someone has a link for some free yoga classes

Hi all,
I think people are being a little hard on Elliebell.
Yes the NHS may provide neccesities for diabetics like needles, covers for blood monitor, pens, diary but maybe we would like the odd freebie too. like diabetic chocolate, diabetic jam, diabetic sweets or other items the NHS dont provide.
come on people lets not fall out now :grouphug: group hug0 -
it depends on what form of diabetes you have. If u have Type 1 diabetes then you deserve freebies etc but if you have Type 2 (which is you OWN FAULT) then you deserve nothing, not even NHS help in my opinion.
I'm amazed by the total rubbish some people spout. :mad:Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before0 -
SO MY DAD DIED OF CANCER IN SEPTEMBER, HE SMOKED SO DID HE DESERVE TO DIE????riffs wrote:it depends on what form of diabetes you have. If u have Type 1 diabetes then you deserve freebies etc but if you have Type 2 (which is you OWN FAULT) then you deserve nothing, not even NHS help in my opinion.
Saying that diabetes isnt an illness is just stupid semantics and it depends on ur definition of an illness. to most people diabetes IS an illness, so get off ur high horse Elliebell
your comment is both childish and pathetic:mad:0 -
I agree alison, my son has diabetes, type 1 but i have family who have type 2 and to say they brought it on themselves is total rubbish:mad: everyone is entitled to nhs help! regardless of the type of diabetes u have!
This was a thread from a poster asking for freebies, like we all do from time to time, why is everyone turning against the op just because they are asking for freebies for a medical condition ( yes condition, not illness, as this is a long term condition, not a flaming illness u can get better from!
Please stop this nonsense!!!
