Diabetic Freebies?

Steveeeee glad to help, they are an excellent company.0

I know this forum is just for UK freebies, but as there are so few Diabetes-related freebies out there, I thought I'd post this here in case it's useful to anyone. Anyone that knows anyone in the US who can order this for them, it's a nice pack for children with Diabetes. http://www.diabetes.org/for-parents-and-kids/wizdom-kit-disclaimer.jsp0

You can then run numerous reports showing your blood sugar control over selected periods of time. The package includes an infra red USB device compatible with the blood test machine (I didn't even know it could do that!).
All I did was phone up Accu-Chek on 0800 701 000 and ask for it and they sent it within a month (I think I had to quote the serial number off the back of my meter or something). It's helped me a lot to improve my control so I was very grateful to receive it. Admittedly they want to please diabetics so that we'll keep using their products and the NHS will continue to pay the extortionate prices for them but I won't complain!

Just want to say thanks for this! Finally got around to phoning up for it today, and the lovely lady said it will be dispatched from their warehouse today, so fingers crossed I'll get it this week sometime. Sounds a fab piece of software too. Thanks again! :T0 -
alison99 wrote:it depends on what form of diabetes you have. If u have Type 1 diabetes then you deserve freebies etc but if you have Type 2 (which is you OWN FAULT) then you deserve nothing, not even NHS help in my opinion.
I'm amazed by the total rubbish some people spout.
I would contest this statement - I have type 2 diabetes - I have always led an active lifestyle, eaten a healthy diet, been very boring not drinking much alcohol & have never smoked, have never been over weight, have BMI of 22. In spite of all this I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a heart condition & type 2 diabetes (& I'm only in my early 40's) - I have been told that had I not followed such a healthy lifestyle even before diagnosis all of these problems might well be worse than they are. I agree that for many people their lifestyle choices contribute to their medical conditions - but don't accuse us all of being the same.
Going back to the original subject of this thread - there is nothing wrong with someone who is diabetic enquiring whether anyone has come across any freebies for diabetics - everyone else is quite happy if directed to a free bar of chocolate or sample of sweets, which we are supposed to avoid, so why are we not allowed free samples of the little treats in our lives.
As a working person, not on insulin, I have to pay for all my medication by the way, although the season ticket does cut the cost considerably.0 -

You might like to re-check this because it is my understanding that any type II diabetic who needs any medication for that condition is entitled to free prescriptions.
As a working type II diabetic - not insulin dependant, I take metformin- I have never had to pay for a prescription (for any item whether its for the diabetes or any other condition!!) since the day I was diagnosed. I even found that the chemist didnt charge me even before I had officially applied for the exemption certificate.
It has literally saved me many hundreds of pounds.
Please re-check as I think you should get yours free too.:D:A Goddess :A0 -
Ys re-check!!!
I asked my granddad about this as he was type 2 to begin with and never paid for his prescriptions.:heartpuls I love this place! :heartpuls
