You need to have something for them to switch using the AATS process - this can be a regular credit, a direct debit or a standing order. You can always set up a standing order to a savings account and then use the switching process...then just cancel the standing order once you've moved accounts!0 -
I was thinking about taking up this offer after seeing it Martin's Tips. Day at home today (snow!!!!) so taking a bit of time out to look at finances........
I've been with A&L for about 6 years for my main current account, never really had a problem with service. However just checking the interest rate on my current account and I find that yet again they have brought out a new current account (Premier Direct) paying 5.94% but not upgraded my account, so its still a Premier Account getting 1.49%. This is not the first time and I am a p!!!ed off about it. There is well over their £1000 requirement going in every month. Last time this happened I rang them up and they upgraded striaght away, I suppose they would again....
I know its my own fault for not keeping a closer eye on the rate but this time I think I'll vote with my feet (or mouse). Another thing that annoyed me was that yet again A&L have brought out a high rate paying account - 7% ISA but as usual its only available to new customers.Back after 9 years in France ... starting again0 -

Do you happen to work for either Halifax of BOS? I have just applied for the Halifax account for £100, but you seem to be definitely saying that you can't have both HAlifax/BOS. Would I be definitely wasting my time? I do have another "free" current account I could use for the purpose.
I work for HBOS (no longer halifax or bank of scotland) - same company so if you already as they merged a number of years ago - therefore customers who have halifax/Bank of Scotland accounts have one customer record - that means no point in trying to walk into a Bank of Scotland branch to open an account using the offer if you already have a Halifax current account - or vice versa!!!0 -

On the website it says:
2. Switch your Direct Debits, standing orders and automated credits (like your salary) to your new account
Does this mean that they will automatically transfer my salary from A&L to Halifax?
Thanks
Just tell them that you will take care of the credits yourself and that you only want them to switch the D/D's & S/O's.0 -

Yes - a lot of people do this
- Define a month. Can't see it in the small print but if I opened it today (7 Feb) is a month a certain number of days or by 7th of next month or whatever?[
Calander month.

I have a Current Account with Halifax, phoned them to check whether it's a High Interest Account, and was told it's a Current Account paying 1.51% interest. I enquired about the new High Interest Account, to be told that it's not being launched until 18 February, costs £10 a month to run, and includes free world-wide travel insurance, road-side assistance etc. I was also told that they presently have a High Interest Account which pays 5% (provided you pay in the £1000 a month etc), which I'm eligible to switch to. I'm going to do that, as I don't want to pay £10 a month to maintain an account, and don't need world-wide travel insurance etc. The 5% account doesn't appear in any of Halifax's "Current Interest Rates" listings, but the young lady I spoke to me assured me it exists, she has one herself, and is putting the necessary changeover paperwork in the post to me today. So, this may be a better option for you too.0

The High Interest Account you enquired about is the one you are about to open - interest rate now actually 6% not 5% as you were quoted. New account to be launched next week is the Ultimate account - separate account altogether. If you go to https://www.halifax.co.uk you will find al lthe information about the one you are about to open - under heading of High Interest Current Account.
Hope this helps0 -

I opened a RBS current a/c last year to get their free £100. I used their a/c switching system as required to move my salary from my other current a/c. It was a joint a/c & the a/c I opened with them was a sole a/c. There was no prob with that.
I don't know what aats is - I am guessing "automated a/c transfer syetem??" Why would it be different with this one? I'm not asking to split hairs, I was going to do exactly that this time only for my husband (from joint to sole) so be a shame if their was problem with that.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
If people don't have any standing orders or direct debits then why not set up one to a chairty of your choice of say £1 a month? You get to do the £100 offer and you get to give to charity too! :-)0
