Its an ongoing process they say, but it is taking so damn long.
5 weeks and counting... not heard anything.
From sending my switching forms, it probably took 2 weeks for A&L to send my list of direct debits (~8) and receive that list from Halifax. I would be losing my patience at 5 weeks - but they only have to receive your switching forms for the £100 as far as I know :)

They can't start the switching process until they receive the forms

they send a copy of this form to your existing bank.

Time scales is various, relying on post, your existing bank time scale to send back direct debit details, and then direct dfebit companies changing details. If you have 40 direct debits this will take longer than 2

I have 5 standing orders (all created myself to feed regular savers), and 1 direct debit (ICESAVE).

I appreciate that the ICESAVE one might take time (as HFAX would need to contact ICESAVE)... but having spoken to the hfax customer support folk, they say they do partial switchings...
i.e. They would transfer over the 5 S.O. when they had that information, and continue to wait for the D.D for a later date.
The fact I have heard nothing implies A&L aren't providing the info, or HFAX aren't chasing it.

I'd atleast expect the 5 SO's to be done by now, even if the DD is a sticking point. Will pop into branch tomorrow.

The Halifax £100 offer ends today, they have brought the closing date forward. I was informed of this when I switched accounts today.

That is what I have used to open the acc, and to speak to them as it is going on, I have not,(up to now) had any problems opening this acc, nor have they refused to answer any queries using the call back facility.
