Halifax Bank of Scotland use Roll numbers beginning with D/ - this would appear on the letter asking for the funds to activate the account and order card

you can do the transfer forms in the branch at the same time after crediting the £100 which has to stay in the account over night to order card - can be withdrawn next day

A branch?? What is one of those? The very thought of gong into a real live branch - who ever heard of such a thing!!!;)

Ok I am going for this. I will reduce my reg saver SO to the minimum and top it up manually with a cheque for a few months. This way if halifax mess up I dont lose out.

Now, can I apply for the account and the switch online. Branch said 'in branch' website seems to say you can do it there. Why do the halifax never give a straight answer

Also, the website says have your employers details handy. I want to credit the £1k manually, so do I have to give this?

You can apply online, but it'll probably be quicker in the branch. There they'll take photocopies of your id's and take the £100 deposit straight away(see other posts), giving you your roll number sort/account number there and then. If you do it online you may need to then send off the id(Or take it to a branch?) transfer the £100...Also people seem to be waiting days to get the email confirmation.

Web asks for employement details, but also has a 'how are you going to fund the account?' question where you can select 'savings' or multiple sources..not sure tbh what will happen there!

I was hoping the id could be avoided, I have other accounts (but no CA) with Halifax

I applied for the a/c online. I got the confirmation in the post within a week (although the letter from the transfer dept came a day ealier than the one saying the a/c was open & giving me the a/c number etc!). I have paid in the £100 online and returned my form today that they sent with the letter in the reply paid envelope. I assume the transfer dept will then send a list of the standing orders/ direct debits etc on my "old" a/c for me to confirm I want to transfer over. I was not asked for ID. No need to step outside the door other than to the post box!!!

You do have to give your employers details but can opt not to fund the a/c with your salary. That's what i did.

Yes you will need to give the bank a/c number and sort code for the a/c you wish to "transfer".

I am transfering from a RBS (Royal bank of Scotland) a/c (the one I opened last year to get their free £100!!) I assume they just do a credit check. I wasn't asked for anything other than the normal address etc. Just follow the online application process it only takes a few minutes.

Under the terms of the switching offer, you have until 30th April to submit your transfer details.

    There's no (immediate) rush!

    Further to YorkshireBoys reply...

    3. Our Switching Team must receive your completed switching instruction forms by 30th April 2007.
So two important dates, but plenty of time for both.....

yes you can do it online, but you need to fund the account with £100 before the switching will start

don't worry about the employer bit - this is optional should you want the aats transfer team to changes wages
