They said they give you a FEE £1000 overdraft for the first 3 months to make sure all DD and standing orders are paid.
Just 1 of my standing orders is £1000
Without blinking, the guy upped it to £2000... interest free for first 3 months.
I think I may aswell make use of it now.0 -
This has probably been covered before but can I confirm something.
Does the £1000 monthly credit have to be a salary?
You see I am in the middle of trying to get the free ipod nano from Citibank so I need my salary to go in there with 2 direct debits / standing orders. So if I set up a direct debit from my old Abbey account, "switch" it to Halifax, then pay myself £1000 a month from my Citibank account to the Halifax account will that work?
Thanks. :-)0 -

Mine too is curently tied up in my barclays current account (spit, spit) for their good regular saver deal... (but of course transferred out immediately into the hfax current account to keep this one sweet).0 -
I applied online on Thursday, and haven't even had an acknowledgement yet.
I'm a bit loathe to ring and chase, as I see from the website they are in the same group as RBS, and not long ago I got £100 for moving to RBS, then closed the account a few months later.
I think I'll keep a low profile for the moment!0 -

Not in the same group as RBS - Bank of Scotland is a completely different company0 -

Hardly think it's a waste of time - just give them 3 months bank statements to allow them to match your current overdraft.....see post above where it was increased to £2000
Overdrafts are offered on individual basis so it's normal for them to ask for evidence of existing facilities if you want them to match them!!!!0 -
Can you get the £100 incentive from both Halifax and BOS?
I've just opened the Halifax account to switch. Don't know whether to get BOS account as well.0 -

I think Halifax and Bank of Scotland merged about five or six years ago and became HBOS. Their websites are very similar to look at. They're both offering the £100.00 incentive to switch at the moment but I think if you hold an account with either one already, then you won't qualify for a second £100.00 for opening the other one.
It is the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) that is completely different from the Bank of Scotland.0 -

They upped mine from £1000 to £2000 even though I was a brand new customer and proved nothing to them.
I never showed them anything regarding income, previous statements etc... you name it. I didnt even aks them to increase it... just mentioned that I'd have to put money in straight away in order to meet my monthly direct debits (not that they asked proof of this).
The reason they give out so easily to me?
I go into city branches. I dress smartly...
I go between 12 and 2pm when city workers are on their lunch breaks.
Moorgate and Bank areas or anywhere near the square mile are perfect.
All employees in these branches are used to dealing with high earning clients (and compete like crazy to secure their custom).
You get an entirely different service here than you would at other branches and certainly over the phone.
If you live in London and can make the effort to get there, its often worthwhile.0 -
1 - When does the interest get added? Is it 31 Dec?
2 - What is the interest percentage OF, how is it worked out as obviously the amount in people's accounts will be different each day (and indeed different PARTS of each day)Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory0
