Try ignoring it for a couple of years LT - mine seemed to just sprout all by itself! (and it was supermarket garlic too...) Strange things, plants...0
-
i'm good at ignoring plants so that should be any problem for me lol0
-
Woo hoo to garlic! I didn't have any ground ready and cleared when it came time to plant it, so I put the 5 cloves I had from Really Garlicky into pots - they've all sprouted and they're having a lovely time
But naturalised garlic, Cheery! Thats very special

Hi everyone
Not sure i posted earlier on on this thread  but i have been reading and do post when i'm up to it
- i've not been too good of late _pale_
I do find this thread very inspiring
having had a few things in my mind that i've been mulling over and reading this and Cheerys thread and blog have helped me come to the conclusion of the sort of lifestyle i want to have. All good stuff hopefully - carry on growing the fruit, veg and herbs that i can :T carry on baking and look at making my own jam :T Keep up with knitting and crochet
Your comments about being in the city struck a chord with me the other day pippi - about all the pretty things in the shops *guilty as charged* i'm basically trying not to get bogged down with feeling like i *should* have things which just create clutter and doing more of the things that make me happy and being more frugal too
One of the things me and OH have often discussed is that we'd love some chickens
- but we don't have a huge garden here
- we have a patio area - raised up and all paved, we have garden area - hmm - plants in soil but no grass if that makes sense ? And a gravel area. This is probably going to be a really silly question
but I wanted to ask if we'd need to wait until we can eventually get a bigger place before getting any chucks or are they ok without a grassy area? I was thinking we could get an Eglu and keep a couple you see but i do want then to have the best conditions really
Many thanks in advane for any advice

Hey up all
I am not dead, despite my lack of words
Hello to you all - loving all the garlicky chat
thank you for keeping the diary warm.

DDFW perfectly fine to have chooks on a hard surface although the gravel area or the plant one might be better. They like to scratch around, whats under your gravel? If the answer is soil then maybe you can accommodate them on that by scraping back the soil? I'll do a bit of research here and PM you. They do like a bit of grass and green stuff buy you can substitute grass for greens or talk a neighbour into giving you a bucket of grass mowings weekly or something. I'll dig out a few links and PM you. How exciting! And, if you're following cheery then you can't go wrong at all! All sounds great there!
Hmmmm, where have I been, working, out for tea on saturday, sunday lie in (bliss) and a windy walk, roast dinner tea and collapsed in a heap asleep by 8!
Today 3/4 day wombling and an hour paid gardening.
Home now, off to forage for tea = need check banks etc.
hope you're all good, I'll try and slowly catch up - Re the dreaded whitefly - can you sprinkle a bit bird seed around the bothered plants and let the birds help you to get rid of the whitefly? Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Ideally I think you'd want them on ground for a bit of time............therefore I'd maybe hack back the gravel and find out what lies under it for the summer maybe?
Hope you're all good off to do banks etc

Huge huge thank you Pippi :T:T:T There was just so much info. when i started searching round and i thought it best to ask someone who'd know
Hmm - seem to remember under the gravel is one of those sheets to stop weeds coming through. If they are happy on the mud that could be the best place for their house
- Although looked at those huts where they go up some steps :smileyhea - think it'll be lovely to watch them going up into their little house - although those ones are a little costly  And good idea about the grass it'll be easy for us to get some off family
Sounds like you've had a busy couple of days - hope the weather is ok for you - it has been incredibly windy, rainy and hailstone-y here xCC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -
Lovely to hear from you, Pippi, and wow, you must have been exhausted to go to sleep at 8 ...
How exciting for ddfw! I bet your neighbours would *love* to get rid of some grass cuttings onto you! And your chooks would be *so* happy
