Well, Im so glad that you have some hope in your life. I wasnt sure of your situation. The present job sounds c...p but youre working towards something so its ok for now but youre right, youre much much better than that. Is there anything else around a bit more pleasant? Anyway good luck with the Maths GCSE. You go for it girl! Youre doing well. Its a pity its such an uphill struggle for you. How about an Open University course? Most of the studying is done at home apart from their summer schools I believe. Anyway, please keep going and stay ambitious. Dont give up however hard it gets; you will make it in the end.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

My daughter has been at university for the past 3 years studying Chemistry and she doesnt like it very much. She has just decided she wants to do an MA in forensics and Im so pleased for her because I thought she was going to leave and still not know what she wanted to do. So I do sympathise with both of you.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

I thought not, sensible woman you are!!!I only buy the cheap stuff and that's with my staff discount... but it is tempting being in there every day I can tell you
:rotfl:
tes, I'm glad your daughter has decided what she wants to do, it can be so hard. I'm a firm believer that 17/18 is really very young to be making big decisions like what to study at uni. There's no alternative really but still, I feel like I know myself so much better now and, whilst I thoroughly enjoyed my degree, I wouldn't choose the same if I was choosing now, IYSWIM! I completed a photography degree last year and am hoping to become a midwife (prob starting sept 2008 if I can get in)... how's that for a turn around?!

hi pap - keep your pecker up
we all do these things; at least you know how to sort it.
i don't know the full story about your mother, but from the details in this thread, you are having to deal with some heavy-duty issues.
at some point you are likely to leave home - and your mother's on-site debt manager isn't going to be on hand.
spend a little time each week imagining the things you'd like to be doing with your life, it can really help keep you motivated and on track.

thanks tes... i was just looking at the ou site today toothanks... i ahve many many questions about the ou but i think that thats the step i want to take... i have looked at the courses avalible in my area (with regards to colleges and uni) but i think the ou is by far the best for my needs... there are a few worrying things but i just need to ask people already with the ou about these... i am actually thinking about doing the opening corses while i am doing my gcse... a big step but i think a worthwhile step... i have been thinking the last few days what i would love to do (aside from animal work) and it would be elderly care (nusing home) or elderly care for those that are mobile but need help at home... i belive elderly people need as much care and support as we can give them... many have been to war and lots have lived a fullfilled life... they need dignity and health near the end... lots more research needed though but i think that this year needs to be the year of change :T

so i prob wont get it :rotfl: but its worth a try
thanks for all your help
well i got it  i dont know if it will start at 0% but they are offering me a typical rate of 13.9% so even if i dont get the 0% offer 13.9% is better than 29.9%so huge thanks to all of you (especially tes) who suggested looking for a 0% deal... i just have to sign the forms and post them... now i have more questions... but dont know if i should post them here or not
anyways i am happy happy happy
edit: oh and with regards to the ou... i am still thinking about it very seriously but i think i need to do my gcse first so i am still going to start that in september and then if nearer the end of the course i feel i can take on teh extra work the ou brings i may do that as well... but certainly in the next 2 years i will be enrolling on an ou health and social care course... i need to do something with my life...0 -
Hi PAP,
I have just seen this thread after reading your post in the what have you spent thread.
Great news about the card.
I am sorry that you have been feeling down and had your splurge, you have got some great advice on here. Tes, you are a star! How are things going? I haven't seen your thread recently.
At least this seems to have been the boot up the backside that you needed to get you to look to your future and decide what you want to do. I agree with Kath, I chose a degree course which has absolutely nothing to do with the job I currently do. And last year I started retraining at night school (law), it is tough but I have so much more determination since I have a goal in sight.
Good luck with it all, keep posting on here!Saving for an early retirement!0
