    Hi Pap,

Just a quick one as its so late. This is what I wrote last week when I closed down some cc accounts -

    Dear Sir/Madam

As I have not used my ...Name of company...credit card for some time and it is at a nil balance I would like to close the account down. Therefore I should be grateful if you would do this as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Yours faithfully

Make sure you sign the letter after yours faithfully as they check the signature. Hope this helps :)

You really have made huge strides and congrats on being debt-free. Does it feel freaky?

I remember when I first had £100 to spend on myself, after years of just surviving on a v low income. Nearly had a nervous breakdown. Suddenly I had to make decision on how to spend money, instead of trying to find money to pay what had to be paid. Took me nealry two months to decide what to do with it.

Do you know about car clubs? Unfortunately, some of them will not accept newly qualifed drivers, but it is a good cheap way to acccess a car without having to buy one. You local one appears to be

it might be worth asking them if they would consider you even if you do not meet their full criteria.

    hiya ras...

yes it does, i feel lost without checking all my balances online and now i only have 4 to check and they are always in credit, quite sad really. Yep i am exactly the same, my holiday and then this last £100 is the last of 'my' money, most of my earning starting may onwards will be put into savings so this will be the last amount of money i will spend on myself. I must say while on holiday it was 'easy' to spend money but now its getting harder, and i fear that some of this money will end up in my 'moving out fund' :rotfl: I am off out shopping today and i have a very small list and there is nothing else i want... sad but true :rotfl:

no i didnt know about car clubs, so thanks for the link... i will look into them, mum wants me to get a car  she is giving me the whole 'its took you nearly £3.000.00 to learn to drive, and now you arnt getting a car' but the way i look at it is... a car will cost nearly £200.00 a month to keep and yes it will give me freedom, could get me a better job and yes it will enable me to do more things i want and to spend less time in the house... but its a lot of money... i still think i will move out, unless i find a fab job either in animal care/social care that requires a car

lifes hard! why are there so many choices? why do we have to grow up?

Growing up is good- you can take less notice of your mum as you get older :D

Your mum would tell you youd need anything, bear in mind, she will happily spend money she hasnt got and you wont. She also doesnt seem to recognise the difference between want and need, and you do.

With the greatest of respects- ignore her- you know best :D

Also to say, driving a car is like riding a bike. I passed my test at 18, but Ive never had my own car. recently I got a company car, and altohugh it took a day or 2 to get used to, i drove alright.

Wait, youll be glad you did ;)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

:rotfl: lynz you have my mum down to a tea... loads and i mean loads of people are against me moving out but its what i want to do, i need to do something for me now, for so long i have been doing what i think is right for other people, and if i am honest i am still that 18yr old that left college 3 years ago :o

something just made me chuckle :rotfl: i jave just recived my sainsburrys statement :T and it says £0.00 and mum seen it and asked why i had another card etc etc... i said it doesnt matter as i have no debts now... you can prob guess what came out next... and my answer was no :) I have also refused to pay for the cats booster tommorow... i have paid all the vet bills/fees for that cat so far and i said no more... so she has to pay :rotfl:

Im thinking there must be a reason why your mum wants you to buy a car. Its not apparent to us, but it must be to you. What Lynz says is correct, your mum doesnt mind you going into debt but its not her who agonises over paying it off. Youve done really well to get to this state so dont blow it. If you want to buy freedom then moving out is the real way to achieve that. Like Lynz, I didnt drive for years and years. I learnt when I was 17 and I didnt really have a car until I was 30.

You will soon get a kick out of checking your savings which will be much better than checking your debts. Theyre not very exciting yet, but they will be as they mount up and you get paid interest. Good for you refusing the vet bills. You stick to your guns. :)

Well done for saying No again PAP, you'll be in your own place before you know it. :T

It took me about £2k to learn to drive, well worth it, it's a skill you have forever :D

  • mmm yes tes me too, i think its beacuse if i get a car she knows i wont move out as i cant afford much (on my low wage)... so maybe thats why, to keep me in the house and being used? ... but i am sticking with it... i know how much a car would mean to me but my own place will mean more :) i also agree that i wont lose my licence so once i have it i can drive whenever its not like they will stop making cars anytime soon :rotfl: I am sure i will tes they will soon start mounting... i am ebaying loads of things at the minute as most of my junk i cant really take to a new flat as there will not be space so most will go onto ebay, i am not too bothered though as it will be like a fresh start :)

thanks again gem for the encouragement, she even wanted me to take him to the vet with her (but then i knew i would be cornered to pay it at the desk) so i said i cant go :rotfl: and i agree with the skill, hopefully it wont be long now and i will pass either first/second time :)

    Did you see this?

When you move out you will be in receipt of housing benefit IIRC.
