I worked really hard last year to lose 2 stone in weight.

This week I am feeling sorry for myself and have eaten the produce of an entire chocolate producing country to make myself feel better.

Did I feel better? No, of course not, but it did remind me just how I lived pre-diet and I now feel more determined than ever not to get back there again.

So your c/c splurge is the same as my chocolate splurge - just goes to show that we are human xx

Hey come on now...if it was so easy getting to be debt free we'd all do it in no time without any hickups. We all make mistakes, that's how we learn. Crikey I make them all the time! You've cut it up now so be proud. Perhaps you had to have just one mad blast, but you've got it out of your system now. Don't dwell on it...I think this blip will only make you more determined because of how it's affected you. Please keep posting, friends support each other through the good and bad times and you've got plenty of friends on here...

Pap, you ok? forgive me but you sound really down... why would any of us judge you - Im sure we all have our own stories!

As you say 4 months is nothing, and if that's what its taken to get you to cut it up, is any real harm done? Why not start putting the same or even half by each month in a seperate "bad day - nice stuff" account once its paid off? Guilt free shopping!

Chin up - we're all only human! x

(PS - I spent £2000 today on new windows - beat that for spending beyond your means  - sometimes you need stuff, its knowing when to say 'enough' that makes the difference, and you did!)
  • clara... i dont know really... because i dont know i was doing so well... i think tbh its beacuse i was giving myself so little (£40 a month) for the nice things as i wanted to save and learn to drive that i just got fed up and everything got on top of me and now its spent :o i think i will do as you suggested and put some money in a piggy bank for my 'bad days' usually its food/choc but since i have got a job and am losing weight it was money... i had another bad day again today and just as i was going to spend more money i logged on here... then reading all the posts shook me out of it... whats done is done... i will just have to hop on (the waggon) and start again... at least its not much... and once i start saving again i am going to save less... i think i was pushing myself too far with nearly 50% of my wage... after all i work hard for my money and i never seem to spend any of it

PAP - a couple of weeks ago I spent rather a lot of money in one day (on some doors - you may remember!). You didn't criticise or point out that I should have waited and saved up, you just sent me a friendly smiley and said 'what is a house without doors'. I know you probably think what you've done is slightly different, but you musn't feel people will judge you harshly, and you mustn't judge yourself too harshly either.

Try and see it from the other side - if someone on here had run up a (relatively small) credit card debt, would you jump on them with a heap of criticism, or would you offer constructive advice and support??? I know what the answer to that question is, and I think you do too. Stop being so hard on yourself right now (that was my best 'bossy' voice lol :)) - if anything, it means you can be an even bigger part of DFW, as you can share the experience of getting it paid off asap, and inspire us all along the way.

You're a superstar and don't you forget it!!!

  • You're right you know. I was setting myself very low grocery targets without a cat in hells chance of achieving it, but then when you fail it makes you think 'why bother' and can send you on a spree out of sheer annoyance with yourself. Good idea what clarab says. Even if you only take £5 out on a saturday and say 'this is to be spent on me' at least you don't feel like you're depriving yourself. Don't be hard on yourself...sometimes when I get really fed up with myself I remember this saying..."I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet" Put it into perspective and think of the blessings you have. I know it's hard to do when you think you've screwed up but don't let it set you back. You CAN do it...:)
