Hi Pap, sorry you've had a bad day :grouphug: I definitely reckon there's something in the air, I am going from high to low this week in the blink of an eye. Maybe Gemmzie is right, full moon? It's hard to carry on being so nice to people when you don't get the same treatment back but remember it's so much better than becoming a bitter person, being able to sleep with a clear conscience - money can't buy that. You did well to resist spending, it's not easy at the best of times so give yourself a pat on the back and remember tomorrow is a new day
I'm in for a weekend of feeling useless as I can't do a thing when we move house, to some people that may sound like a dream but not to me  anyway I hope the weekend is good to you

bit of a post and run but i need your advice ~ again ~ always and forever :rotfl:
in october 6th (i think) is my best friends mums 60th (i work with her mum and my best friend works on another department). Now i dont know teh ins and outs but her mum takes home around £770 from her main work £?? DLA and £70 cleaning. My best friend takes home £400 (these are all estamtes or what i can remember). Now my best friend pays a huge loan and her mother is on a dmp. Now there car has broken down and she has had to get it fixed (£200) and the mot is next month (due to fail) anyways they say they cant afford food this month while they have payed their bills...
I have got the mother a gift of £20 all in all for her birthday and i am giving £5 for the meal we are arranging. Its my best friends birthday novemeber and i have brought her a bag for £30 and will pay £100 off our holiday for next year...
however i am now tempted to order some food from tesco and get it delivered to them... however it will mean not paying some off the holiday... i am reluctant to give her the money as i know it will be frittered away... but in another turn of the coin her daughter (my best friend) is keeping most of her wages to take her mother shopping on her birthday
what would you do ~
a) buy food from tesco
b) buy food from tesco but dont pay the holiday
c) give them a little bit of cash (ie under £50)
d) offer them a 0% loan for up to £100 but get it back before the holioday with my best friend
e) do nothing i shouldnt bear others money problems
opinions please ~ i am posting and running as i am so behind i shall pop back later :A0 -
PAP you truely are a wonderful person...... But I am going to sound mean here and say I would opt for E. As you say your Best Friend is saving her wage to take her mum shopping for her birthday so she could delay that and use that money to tide them over. If they can't afford food then they really shouldn't be shopping for stuff...... also you have worked really hard becoming DF and you've put your foot down re lending money to your mum and brother you really don't want to get yourself back in to that situation again lending to someone... I mean what if some thing else come's up next month and they say they can't afford food again!!!! will you lend them more! on the plus side your friend could do some over time.... In a word it's not your problem now keep that purse in your pocket!!
I hope I have helped even a little bit

Sorry to say this but I would go for option e), if your friend has held back money to go shopping then they can use that for food! Either that or going hungry for a few days will get them thinking about how to save money!
One thing I am interested in though is the fact that someone gets DLA but also works? I am on DLA and CANNOT work because I physically can'tDo not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

PAP :A ... you are to nice and caring for your own good! I'm sorry but I would have to say option e) too. You cannot be responsible for everyone elses money ups and downs. You have to look after yourself!
If you are that worried about them then could you swap some or all of the mum's present for a hm food hamper/box type thing (only if you can use/reuse the present another time). Really if your friend is saving up to take her mum out for her birthday she should have money for food set aside before spending it all on unnecessary things. Sorry if this sounds harsh...Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!
