Hi
I've just got a text supposed to be from orange informing me I have a free phone available, and to call this number 02071539996. is this a genuine Orange number or a hoax
Seems funny as they usually tell me to check online
Thanks.

It has all the makings of a scam.;)
Code: 020 7153
Area: London
Operator: COLT
Tariff Band: National (inc VAT)
Service: Geographic0 -
Looks like an ordinary inner London number to me
This is Fulham Library for instance 020 7153 51200 -
Is this scam, my daughter told me she has received a tx from orange telling her as a very loyal customer, she is entitled to a free camera phone and to ring this number 02071539153? This seems strange to me, very unusual for orange to tx her and give her a non geographical number to ring. I told her to ignore it. Am I right? Thanks0

Don't reply - it's a scam.
If you google the number, it'll get quite a few hits - apparently it turns up every few months.0 -
Hi,
I've just received a text from this number.
If this is a scam, does anyone know what is the actual scam itself?

This is a scam (at least it's fraud if they say they are Orange/working on behalf of Orange) - a 3rd party dealer wanting you to upgrade via them (they upgrade like the Carphoneware house etc. would - send you a new phone, tie you into a new contract etc.) some scam you by taking your card details and taking your money.
Upgrades should be done via 150 generally (direct through Orange) or a 3rd party dealer who you trust. (eg CPW/phones for you etc.)
Outbound marketing/sales/promos via Orange via telephone call are always via 07973100XXX and they have full details of your account etc. It is not common practice for Orange to contact for upgrades via outbound.

i made the stupid mistake of giving out my details, i just called them back and told me to remove my details.
i have heard recently in the news about networks supposidly giving away customer contacts to third party companies.
i had contacted orange and they said it's nothing to do with them and said they were surprised to hear about this and that upgrades are for contract users and not pay as you go through them.
i just googled the company as they stated the company name as Communication Network Technology i spoke to an indian person maybe its an indian call centre i dont know, i didn't really get any significant finds other than this thread for the telephone number
i'll see what happens here.My Signature is MY OWN!!0 -
