I'm rather surprised, this has made me really think - remembered my old expired american travelcard has $132 left on it I can claim back after I change my address, so called up to sort that, and forgot to send off my PPI reclaim letter from Natwest, plus going through old survey sites has so far netted me near £310 total in intagible money I can put towards my goal once it all comes in, and found a piggybank in my room with £12 in change in :D

So many of you are doing so well already. Not sure I can count my saving - what are your views. I had to change a light fitting the other day, normally a simple job, but when I took the old one off it was a mass of wires. Hadn't a clue what to do, but popped down to B&Q for what I thought I needed. Turns out the store electrician told me it was really a job for an electrician and given that it was New Years Day would cost in the region of £200!! Yikes! However the bloke sat me down and gave me step by step instructions on how to do it - 2 days later I finished the job (although my door bell has stopped working now - but actually enjoying not having my daughters ring it all the time :D). Not a cash in bank type of saving, but it saved me paying out for something I hadn't a clue about before and would have either blown the house up or ended up getting an electrician out for. What do you reckon - should I count it?

OMG! first of all well done you! thats amazing, how brave are you!:j:j:j you must be so proud of ureself, im proud for you! also, how nice was the bloke! i reckon you should count it, i would.:)

oooooh, good bargain, and good question! im sure we'll all come across similar situations. hmmmm, dya know, im not sure! im counting supermarket offers i wouldnt normally buy at full price, but they are things i would normally buy. did that make sense?! its like if i get some shoes at half price, that id never have paid full price for isnt it? maybe you can look at what you would pay on average for the same, and use that as the starting price? then again, i dont think it would be wrong to use the £56 as a starting price for the savings. maybe split the difference?

That's what I was going along the lines of :) so that makes a saving of... call it £25 :)
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions
  • I've noticed some people aren't counting cashback, clicks and surveys until they cash out. Doesn't that mean that at the end of the year you won't have an accurate total as some things you earn in December and November (even October or Sepember), won't cash out til 2013! In that case are you counting cashouts this year from surveys etc done last year?

Got to do it one way or the other - either count all cash-outs during 2012 (even those "earned" in 2011) or count everything "earned" in 2012 (even those which don't cash out til 2013). Whats everyone's thoughts on which way to do it. Personally, I would go for when I get the cash in my paws, in which case I have £69.89 cashback in my hands today from the end of last year!

Please can I join? I'm going to put all of the money I earn from babysitting towards my total, as it's an additional income. I earned £25 on Monday night, so that'll go in the pot.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I'm only counting money that physically lands in my bank account as "earned". I'm not counting anything that I'm forcasted as pay out times vary so much.
It's open to your own interpretation though :D

I'm hoping to use my 100 free listings on eBay this month. I've got things ending nearly everyday for the next week but not sure how I will sustain that once my house is decluttered!

I had a nice final bill from EDF saying I'm over £217 in credit with them! However I don't think they have cleared the electricity final bill yet so doubt I'll see anything from it.
I am going to count the difference between my EDF and nPower DD's as it's money that would of otherwise been tied up and it can help the pot grow.

I've entered about 100 comps from the forum and am looking into Loquax but not sure how it works - do I still have to fill everything in or will it do it for me?

I've also requested loads of freebies which I will save towards Christmas (yes already thinking ahead!) and vouchers which I received at Christmas have been transferred into presents for both Christmas and Birthdays for the year ahead!
Cabot (0%) left to pay £2455 let the overpayments commence! :D

blimey, this whole thing has got me thinking waaaaaaay too much of late!

i was only gonna count things when they were cashed out, so it would be easier to keep track of. i reckon i'll stick to that, as my heads spinning already with all sorts of random figures ive written on post-it-iques!

The bloke was an absolute star - I had to go in the next day with photos etc so he knew exactly what I was dealing with and he sat me down, drew diagrams and made sure I didn't leave the store without me telling him everything I was going to do. He even gave me his number so I could contact him to tell him it had been done (and probably so he knew he hadn't sent someone off to blow themselves up!) I made sure I let B&Q know what a great service I had.

Well, if I do count it, that's a great start to 2012 - I will be fair and take off the cost of the couple of items I had to buy to do the job (only a few £). :)

As for Cashback, I'm counting the money I cash, not anything that's still sitting in pending not in my bank account. I'm also doing the same with supermarket points - not going to count them unless I've spent them. Talking of which I must see about getting some of my Tesco Vouchers back.

I entered a few more competitions yesterday - I registered with Loquax and as far as I can see you have to do it all yourself. I couldn't see how it tracked for you though.

arrowlili - I would definitely count budgetory savings from your shopping if you have made a concerted effort to reduce your spend and can see a difference in how much you're paying at the till as a result. I'm going to do something to track the money I'm saving by taking my own lunch in to work rather than buying it. I'm with you on the toddler front, by the time mine have gone to bed, I'm far too exhausted to spend my evenings filling out lots of mind-numbing surveys.

    yay, you're an angel :A
i couldn't see, apart from ebay (and hopefully photography at some point), how i was going to make any extra money. i know what you mean about exhaustion.
i have joined the 'no spend days' & 'grocery challenge's and already knocked £50 off my usual weeks spend, but for this week it looks like i may do a fair bit better than that :D:D:D
