Sainsbury's: PLEASE OPEN YOUR CHECKOUTS

  • I find Sainsburys is one of the best in my area. Morrisons is awful, always at least 3 deep at the checkout and never any more than 20% of the tills open. Tesco is very good, loads of checkouts open but always very busy which means a small wait. Asda nearly always have all checkouts open and they have a lot of self service tills, but again its busy. Sainsburys and Waitrose have the 'fast track' option available which I use, where you scan on the way round and hand it in on a dedicated till. Never any queues, and if you do need a re-scan then they do it very quickly for you.

and I am confident in my assumption that the green fleeced teen doing that job, proceeds to tell the people at the BACK of the queue (i.e. have been queueing for the shortest length of time) to go to a till which is being opened/with a shorter queue

Tell the person second in the queue, as they have been waiting longest!!!

That really bugs me too!!:(

I wonder whats quicker... taking all the goods already loaded onto the belt, put them back in the trolley, just the go to another till or leaving them to be served next and moving others.

Asda this month have had someone directing people to the shortest queue (each time i've been in as opposed to some of the time before) and dedicated packing staff floating about and working as needed (till assistant always happy to pack for me previously but they've obviously got in extra staff this month).

    I have been really impressed.

Re the posts above, it is really hard to back out of a checkout lane, especially when your goods are already unloaded and there are people behind you, who would all have to move with their trolleys back into the store, cue much moaning and creating congestion for everyone!

Aldi, and now 99p store the same.. you'd have thought at busy xmas shopping period, they would want as much ££ coming in as possible!?

sometimes I see just ONE till open, with up to a dozen people waiting.. i have had to go searching for staff, asking them to open another till, but they seem gormless.

These places leave themselves open to shoplifting. even the 'security' guards are half asleep / uninterested.

The £1 shop in Brighton (Western Road) seem to have it sorted now.. very quick service.

PS- I feel an #occupythetills coming on.. THEN I bet management would soon pay attention!

Cant they see that a lot of people in the store, will eventually be queueing up to pay..

waiting for the liens to reach xyz long, before opening another is just BAD!

Okay then - the person who has been waiting longest but hasn't yet unloaded their shopping onto the belt, either way, you know what I meant!

  • I`m sitting here smiling. I really only do internet shopping with no charge for delivery. Feet up, a mug of tea and I browse up and down the isles at my leisure. Ok yes I do sometimes need something I have missed and then I go to sainsbury but it`s only perhaps once in 2 months and then it is with a short list so I am not shattered but yes I very much see the frustration of all on this thread. It just isn`t good enough and by the way, I refuse to use those self service tills and do anyone out of a job

In my experience Asda are extremely good at this. They even have people walking at the back of the tills directing people to where the queue is shortest.
My local Sainsbury does this - so maybe it depends on local managers whether they allocate people to do it.

Mind you, they get confused when I decline and as for the one who decided to grab the trolley and take it to the next queue before he'd finished asking me he was very startled when I pulled it back.

Why? Well, I'm there regularly and I recognise the good operators so I'll join their queue with 3 people rather than an unknown with 2. It doesn't always work but 2 out of 3 times I'm through more smoothly.
I need to think of something new here...
