  • So because you couldn't wait your turn someone had to run around putting everything back which you left?

Hell yeah. And I'll do it every time I get to the tills and find 90% of them closed. If more people did it you can bet your backside they would stop treating customers with such contempt.

Or employ more staff and increase prices

    Sounds like a win win!

Maybe one extra member of staff per shift.

That would cover for four people each doing a couple of hour long stints on the tills at the busiest times.

I'd be happy to pay a few pence more per week (and it would only be a few pence per customer) to get rid of the five deep queues that most supermarkets seem to feel are acceptable.)

That's right, because every other supermarket that are able to fill their checkouts with staff are *all* much more expensive than Sainsbury's, yeah?! I think not.

Seems that argument has no legs then.
  • So because you couldn't wait your turn someone had to run around putting everything back which you left? If you haven't got time to que why not go out 10 mins early, instead of creating more work for people. Or buy a magazine to read whilst waiting your turn?

You're the kind of person I would deliberatly make que longer just to wind you up further.

I, personally, do not understand someone who spends an hour walking round a shop and then walking out when there is a queue of more than 3 people.

Surely you saw the queues when you was wandering round? if there were no queues then it looks like they are unusually busy.

Maybe they could have a 'personal shopper' option like a Fastpass, that you can pay £10 for and then you can get to the queue first. Or should you not be paying for it, you expect it? Why do some people think they are more special than the rest of us?

They probably have more customer turnover and need the staff and thus have more money to pay them. You could shop there instead of Sainsbury and then you would not have to wait. Is there a reason you chose Sainsbury over the other supermarket that has no queues?

What about if you spend 10 minutes doing your shopping and the queue is 5 deep?

But it's not really about people walking out. Few do this. If they did they would not let the queues get so long.

They can build quite quickly, you know.

You have that exactly wrong, don't you?

Nobody said that they were 'more special'.

It's about supermarkets treating all their customers badly by making it a policy to have so few staff on the checkouts that queues build to excessive levels during peak times. day in, day out. No reasonable person is going to object to queuing a little longer occasionally when they are unexpectedly busy.

I'm a 'migrant' shopper that travels different places for different things - sometimes I just like a change.

Normally I shop at Asda, but I'm lucky enough to have Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Lidl and even a large Co-op right on my doorstep more or less.

The Sainsbury's store pre-dates the Asda, Morrisons & Lidl and was - during the 90's - my supermarket of choice. I predominantly don't use it now because of issues with stock on shelves and staffing of checkouts. However, I do revisit it every once in a while to see if it's gotten any better and this was one of those trips.

Hey, I've just thought of a brilliant idea for Sainsburys. Why not take staff off shelf stacking or from the warehouse when tills need to be opened, clear the customers then let them go back to their other duties when the queues are low?

    Justin; I'm awaiting your payment.
