they could recover my bank charges within 2-3 months for a charge of £40.
How can I put this........they're lying
Is this a good idea considering the uncertainty surrounding the current test case/appeal?
    In a word, no

I have just received a phone call from a firm stating they act on behalf of NatWest and Abbey saying that the bank charges have been classed as unlawful and that i will receive all charges due to me.

The firm were called RECLAIM U.K. and asked me what branch i was with and to confirm i havre been with them (abbey) for over 6 years.

They charge a one off payment of £39.99.

Anyone know of any updated issues regarding bank charges, they are going to write to me for me to sign a declaration.

I phoned them back anonomously 01253755781 and adviser says RECLAIM UK can I help.

IS THIS A SCAM, OBVIOUSLY, but i was quite happy at the time.

I assume you called your bank to confirm that this company are acting for them? I'd also ask them to confirm exactly where they got their information that bank charges have been classed as unlawful.

Very foolish if you answered this question.

So in fact its £39.99 plus 8 %, probably VAT added to that and if they aren't successful, which they won't be, then you better check the small print to see what they charge in those cases.

But hey if you believe people who cold call you, then its bound to be a bargain :)

  • I persuaded my other half to claim back his bank charges from his student days. Unfortunately he wouldn't go down the route of doing it himself but went with firm who are doing it for him.

Anyway we started all this last year however have heard nothing from the company doing it for us since the test case. Should we start again ourselves? Or get in touch with this company?

Are the banks starting to pay out again? it's in the region of £2k would get the house deposit saving off to a brilliant start. He is not gettign to spend that money!! Have got him on the straight and narrow with his money so this can be my consultancy payment haha.

Thanks in advance for any advice

firstly i would contact the firm and see what they say. the banks are not paying out except in hardships cases eg taking a reduction in wage being made redundant etc... so even if you did start agaiin yourselves you would go to the back of the queue unless you fall into the hardship categories so if the company has started might be better to let them finish as it would be quicker
  • Hi, I was wondering if anyone can put my mind at rest over something. I have had a claim open with smile in writting for a few months now and the last contact said they would notify me of any progress. However yesterday I recieved a phonecall from a seperate company called Reclaim who said my claim had been successful and that the next step was to send me legal documents which I am to send to smile myself but I had to pay an on the spot charge of £39.99, covered by 8% interest on my charges. This only actually covers less than a third of the fee as my bank charges were relatively small.

The suspicious thing is I don't know how they got hold of my contact details as she was unaware which bank my claim was filed with and I have had no further notification from smile themselves for weeks. When I expressed concern over the process the woman gave me the company's registration number and her direct line and name. In a moment of haste I gave her the details and am now nervous about the whole process. Is this a practise anyone else has come across with smile or any other bank?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
