Halifax Monthly Draw

Well it was quite difficult to find out and I had to go back 2 days later to find out how much I had won!
It was £100
Such a long winded way of telling you how much you have won though!
Even though you have an account with them and they will pay winnings into your account you need to take ID with you and proof of address.
I took my passport and the recorded delivery letter from them. My passport was fine but their letter was not proof of ID. They wanted either:- bank statement - I online bank with them
- utility bill - I have paperless account
- council tax bill - no problem but it's not under 3 months old which is another requirement that proof of address is under 3 months old
- letter from Govt. body i.e. IR, tax credits - again though they go out around April.

That does seem a little weird. We can open various accounts with them without any form of identification, thanks to electronic ID. We have current account and savings accounts with them, but they need to verify your ID before they'll let you know how much you won, rather than just saying "Its £100, we'll put it in your current account.".
I could understand it if you had won £100,000, but even then, a passport or driving license should be sufficient considering they'll be putting the money in your bank account thats also with them!

Given the mixture of gambling laws, money laundering laws, standard banking practice and other stuff, I can't say I blame them for being a tad OTT with this. That does seem a little weird. I had my blooming passport though I also had proof of address, a letter in the recorded delivery envelope it came in but they said that it wasn't "proof of address" , lost me on that one!

When is the next draw btw? I wonder if we can FP some cash into a qualifying savings account on the day and then back out the next

you need to have £5k in the account for a full calendar month before qualifying. So if you have £5k for only part of December, you will not qualify for the January draw.0

They're not falling for that trick:Halifax wrote:You'll need to keep a total balance in your qualifying accounts of at least £5,000 for the whole calendar month before each draw. For example, to be in the December 2011 draw, you'll need to keep a total balance of at least £5,000 (in one or more savings accounts) from 1st to 30th of November 2011.

With a quarter of a million customers already registered (as at end of October) and just 1103 prizes altogether, I'm not getting my hopes up too high!I think those odds aren't actually too bad.Jennifer_Jane wrote: »Ouch! Thanks, had wanted to know how big this had become. Bigger than I'd hoped, anyway.
I'd wondered this too. I'm guessing that:
250000 people / 1103 prizes = 1 in ~226.
~226 / 12 monthly draws = 18.89 years.
So, statistically, by 2029, I should be £100 better off.
Thinking further, if £5000 takes 18 years to become £5100, that's about 0.1% interest.
(Yes, yes, I know that not all the prizes are £100, nor that the number of entrants would stay constant, but my maths isn't good enough to take all that into consideration.

If you win one month are you excluded from the following month's draw?
