Neighbour finds our christmas lights "annoying"...

Bit pedantic I think. And insulting come to that, winking smilie or not.
Not really. It is not Christmas at the moment. There is no need for decorations until much later in the month.
And I'm afraid that those kinds of lights simply are tacky, and if you find that insulting then so be it. There is nothing good taste about a flashing Santa. And it is rude to inflict them on other people. Have them in your own homes if you like them so much.

Your comment above is what I found insulting. Not your opinion that Xmas lights are tacky.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Sounds like shes a nosey old bat and you're obscuring her view due to the brightness......
Id say leave the lights - its only for a few weeks. Unlike those bloody halogen ones that people use that dazzle you at home or driving along the country roads.. bah humbug on that all year round!!Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
It's always been a little treat on December evenings to stick the kids in the car in pj's and draped in a blanket and head for a particular street on the nearby council estate to see the Christmas lights! We play the Christmas CD and have a few sweets. Posh areas are rubbish for decorations!
We don't do the outside of our house because we're both scared of heights, but really appreciate the effort that other people make:)0 -

strictly speaking theres no "need" for decorations at all is there? But folk like decorating their homes, and some like to decorate outside their homes, and some like decorating their homes from the beginning of December.
The OP has already said her Santa doesn't flash.

1)it is NOT flashing as stated many times, there are flash settings but we'd never use them.
2)my son has aspergers amongst other things and has been counting the days to the 1st december as a prep for him dealing with the changes to the house. If we put them up a week before say,he'd still be anxious by xmas day so we are starting early.
3)I am 36 weeks pregnant and we wanted to make the most of "now" and christmas incase I pop before my induction date and am in hospital over xmas.
4)it makes my children smile,is not illegal and as far as we can see we are being as considerate as possible.Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx

you go girl....your house your choice0 -
I wish I'd taken a picture of the house I drove past earlier this evening (couldn't though, as I was driving...
), it was absolutely covered in lights! Your house sounds positively tame in comparison! There's loads around our way that do it. I think some are tackier than others but at the end of the day, they make people (well, some people) smile, and I know they make me feel festive
I wouldn't have any problem with the house over the road having lights on it, we have a street light right outside our house anyway so I probably wouldn't even notice a bit of extra light, and if they were turned off at 10pm then they wouldn't bother me at all...
I still think we need to see a picture though...:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
I don't see the harm in a few decorations.
Keeping your curtains open at night is an open invitation to the local burglars to have a look in to see what's up for grabs, anyway. And it's dark at 4 now, so it's not as if closing them at 6 or 7 is that much of a hardship.
I wouldn't worry too much about her. My mother moans like that, it's more for the sake of moaning and making someone else feel bad than anything else. I'd reply with an 'oh, dear.' and then ignore her, as they're going to be off in under 28 days, after all. If she did make anymore fuss, I'd probably reply, well, I would, but as you know my son has Aspergers and he would not react very well to it being changed now, especially with the disruption of the new baby, too. So they'll be off soon enough. Smiling sweetly, of course.
The problem my mother found is that she had a go at the next door neighbour and the next door neighbour wasn't as soft as she imagined. So instead of letting mum bully her, the first thing she did was take an exhaustive list of everything my mother does to cause nuisance, take photographic evidence and report her to the council instead. She hasn't dared moan at the woman since and I, for one, have absolutely no sympathy for her.
Don't worry too much about it, she probably is missing having the lodgers to moan about. Smile and let in go in one ear and straight out the other.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
