We can see the downstairs lights in the living room as they are hanging icicles and as the tree is up we don't draw the curtains. From upstairs we can't see the lights to be fair as they outline the top of the house but we can see the santa and others from the house yep xSlightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx

In that case, I'd leave them where they are. They don't look unreasonable to me, it's only for a few weeks.
On the other hand if you're really bothered about it, have you thought about asking your neighbour if you can go into her house and see exactly where the problem lies? It might just be a case of repositioning a character a few inches.:xmastree:Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. I've not read the whole thread, but my suggestion is to double the amount you have up, christmas lights are pretty to look at!0

I'm happy to be a grinch. I can't bloody stand these vulgar displays outside people's houses and I'm bloody glad nobody round here does it (actually, I don't think people are allowed to round here as its not in keeping with the area)
Anyway, if a house opposite me was decked out like some low-rent seaside resort I think I'd just slip round under cover of darkness with a pair of pruning shears and cut the ruddy power cable. I completely agree. Lights can be SO beautiful if they are done tastefully. For example, having small blue lights in a row of trees in a main avenue can look very pretty. But individual displays on houses almost always look tacky and tasteless. I think a trim of small lights can look ok, but characters or ornaments can be over the top.
I hate to be made to feel like a Scrooge because I don't like tacky lights. I get involved in Christmas a lot, and I love it and it's my favourite time of year. Just because I don't like this type of display of lights doesn't mean I'm a Scrooge, even though that's what most people will probably think now!
I do feel sorry for those living in streets whose residents feel the need to do this, as their personal choice affects everyone in quite a garish way.DFBX2013: 021 :j seriousDFW £0 [STRIKE] £3,374[/STRIKE] 100% Paid off

Yes. :rotfl:0 -
Very Christmassy, not overkill at all. I'd not take them down and the neighbour should just shut her curtains for a few weeks.
If you want to see overkill, I live in the US and they really know how to overkill on a grand scale and it starts in November!0 -

I have never had Christmas lights outside personally, but I have no problem with people that do. I certainly don't feel the need to look down upon and sneer at their decision to do so. Snobbery at it's finest!
OP your lights look great, not OTT at all!0 -
I have had four people in the last week either knock on my door, ask my sons or ask me as Im going out to the car when my outdoor decorations are going up. Not all people are humbugs and as we live on the edge of the park I realised that a lot of people actually look out for mine. They are going up on Monday when hubby gets home but feeling a bit lost last night as most of my neighbours had put theirs up yesterday xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
It appears to be the "thing" now to decorate well in advance the actual season and for many it is the more the better. It is NOT Christmas yet that is on the 25th. Personally I do not care either way though to be fair none of my neighbours are into the over the top displays of some, and very few put their trees up this early.
But I certainly would not like to live opposite one as the light would become an irritant when trying to sleep given that I work shifts and sleep at odd times.
The op states they turn them off at 10pm and the neighbour does not like that she has to draw curtains - perhaps she also is a shift worker as not sure why drawing her curtains of an evening would be an issue otherwise.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
