Neighbour finds our christmas lights "annoying"...

I also don't pull my curtains as early as 6pm in the evening and don't know anyone else who does, but that might just by my local area.
I do. I don't like when it's dark outside and we have lights on inside and the curtains are open. Everyone can see in then. When it gets dark, the curtains get closed.Herman - MP for all!0 -
She is a nosey neighbour yes so maybe I am interrupting her watching the local kids come home from school/the drunks from the pub round the corner stagger home?
Gobbledygook..are you a 60+ widowed italian lady with a penchant for playing your opera music at 6am whilst cleaning your front doorstep? If not then nope we're not neighbours
Off to grab a pic because now I'm paranoid I might be being majorly inconsiderate without realising!!Thing is there are houses on the roads around ours with flashing santas climbing up drainpipes, bloomin great big reindeers and snowmen globey things on the roof playing music. One house has pretty much the entire roof covered in a net light and every front window with flashing net lights too....we look tame in comparison!Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx

I close my curtains as soon as it gets dark, no matter what time of the year it is
. Some good suggestions OP, how to tackle your neighbour about a compromise, if thats what you decide to do.

Everyone can see in when it is light indoors and out too though! I don't tend to do anything that I would be embarrassed for people to see, and if I did, I'd pull the curtains or switch off the lights0 -

No, that's not the case with us. We're set back from the road with a sizeable front garden. You can't see anything unless it's lit from inside. Privacy isn't just about hiding potentially embarrassing moments.Herman - MP for all!0 -
There's far worse things to worry about than a few Christmas lights - live and let live, and all that. Other than possibly moving them slightly out of her eyeline, I'd say carry on as you are. They're not on and flashing all night, it's only a temporary thing so your neighbour really doesn't have much to complain about, I'd ignore her if it were me. If she complains again, point out all the other houses to her and tell her she's got off lightly!
(At the moment I'm far more concerned about who's nicked my winter flowering pots out of my front garden - a curtain twitching neighbour would suit me down to the ground.)All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Am I the only one amazed by the neighbours complaint?!?!?
Even if the OP had an all singing all dancing light display (think "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation") which from her description she doesn't, does it really warrant a complaint?
I personally couldn't care less what lights my neighbours put up. If flashing lights attract my attention and annoy me (which I highly doubt) then I'll simply move my seating position or close my curtains. Wouldn't dream of even thinking of complaining about it."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" bumpmakesfour - Lol nope not me. I don't like opera and I get a window cleaner :laugh:0

She sounds like a miserable old cow with too much time on her hands to find things to complain about. Too many people like that around, unfortunately..
Enjoy your lights OP, I'm sure many others are too, brightening up those dark dreary nights.0
