Neighbour finds our christmas lights "annoying"...

They are not being forced to, it's their choice!
Keep the curtains open, put up with the view. Close the curtains, shut out view.

Tempted to post a pic to see what you think... anyone else care to share a pic of their house first so I can see where the bench mark is?Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8

I personally hate decorated houses at Christmas time, but I'd never complain to anyone about it, they're up for about a month of the year and being honest I do realise I'm the one with the problem
Doesn't even sound too bad OP. I had a neighbour who's house was like Santas Grotto and they would flash from the minute it got dark until 8am. Their electricity bill must have been massive. Also the majority of November & December and a few days in January normally. :eek:The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
I think the point that was made earlier about the neighbour being the one who has to look at them not you is valid. If they haven't said anything beforehand, and are usually pretty easy to get along with, perhaps its worth asking yourself why she has taken the step of mentioning it to you now. Perhaps it really is niggling them. Can you perhaps talk to her and see if there's something you can do to meet each other halfway? I don't like closing my curtains too early either, it makes me feel hemmed in. Mind you, we live in the middle of nowhere, so it's only the cows I frighten if the lights are on indoors and the outside world can see me as I wander about!!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

She says she likes her curtains open...fair enough I guess.I suppose not everyone closes their curtains but even so I honestly don't feel we're being inconsiderate
has anything changed? has she changed jobs and now finds herself at home at a different times for example? have the lights changed positions? anyone moved into to her house? has a hedge been cut down or anything? street lights been moved? or maybe she's just decided that seven years is quite enough and shes now snapped? i suppose it depends on the area - if your decorations stand out then she could have a valid problem?
i think you should find out exactly what her problem with them is and then go from there. she may have been happy in the past to close her curtains early but something (burglary, car theft etc) may have happened to want her to change that, so i dont think its as easy as ignoring her. she could be someone to be kept onside iyswim and so crossing her may not be wise.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. *sneaks out with the camera to take pic of the house down the road and pretend it's ours* :rotfl:
Yes OP, post a pic please.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Never got the craze of outside lights personally.. what's the point you don't see them.......however living on a close with 6 houses who do light up and only me who doesn't I am clearly in the minority
Would never moan about the blackpool illuminations I get though...........its christmas after all0 -

You raise a really good point there actually. There are normally 5 houses on the road who go all out.One has moved, and the other 4 are"works in progress" and will be on 2mro so I guess we do stand out a little.
She is in her 60s and a bit nit picky but nice.Annoying thing is she had lodgers for the past 2 years who played LOUD music all day and night, would sit fixing their cars stereos on full blast till very late, park the cars blocking drives etc but not one of us complained.Oh well!!
She cooked, cleaneed and mollycoddled the lodgers but they left last month so maybe she's bored/lonely? who knows?Slightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx
