What has happened to people being considerate of other people? Your children may like the lights, but why should their happiness come at the expense of someone else's? It's quite possible that the lights are very irritating to the person opposite, and it's unfair for them to have to shut themselves away because of your lights. Having been the victim of inconsiderate neighbours playing loud music and making me feel uncomfortable and unsafe in my own home, I can understand that bright lights could do the same.
I'm all for people doing as they please if it doesn't cause harm to anyone else, but please consider that this could be distressing to this person. It could be a chance to teach your children a lesson in compromise and consideration for others. They needn't enjoy themselves any less - some less bright lights or fewer of them will still look good, and you can decorate their bedrooms with as many lights as you/they wish, as this will certainly not cause anyone else any discomfort!
It's for a couple of weeks for goodness sake. What a lot of miseries on this thread. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Rather than laughing at this lady, have you ever considered getting one of your kids or "hubby" to take her bin to to the kerb for her?
It teaches children good manners, "hubbys" too. We always do the bins for one another here.
.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
I would carry on and leave them up and put them on when you want to, it's Christmas for crying out loud, if she doesn't like them she doesn't have to look at them.
By the way i like them.
No it isn't.
It's the 4th of bloody December - Christmas is 3 bloody weeks away!
This constant pushing of Christmas earlier and earlier really gets on my t!ts. Why don't we just go the whole bloody hog and start putting the tat up after the August bank holiday.
Actually if I did find myself living opposite a house that went in for the inflatable christmas characters I think I'd let my michevious side take over and put up some festive inflatables for their family to look out at.......5 x 'Just jugs 3 hole blow-up dolls' with some christmas hats and a bit of tinsel should do it *grin*“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

I can see both points of view here.
On one hand , I personally would NEVER put lights up on my house (although I might put a few 'tasteful' white ones around the window inside).
However,I quite i like the look of other peoples' houses when they do it, even if it is tacky....I think it's cheerful and jolly too.
Whether I would like them shining in my window is a different matter - although thinking about it, if they go off at 10.pm I would not have a problem.
So, on the whole, I don't think the OP is being unreasonable -( although I think they are up about two weeks too early).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

i cant understand why people have lights outside, why pay to light up the street, you already pay your council tax, i agree with the poster above who says the blue lights are a hazard while driving.Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

Great idea! I think I'll give it a whirl next year:D.
OP - your lights are fine, don't worry. Good luck with the new arrival:).0 -
This says it all, doesn't it? I would be struggling to avoid the temptation to tie some jingle bells on every bin on the street:rotfl:
ROFL I choked on my tea reading that:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway, padstow, she may have mentioned it "casually", but she also asked them to take their bin out at a different time, just to fit in with her! 9pm's hardly unreasonable, we've already established that she doesn't mind HER lodger making noise much later than that - I don't know his taste in music but that may well be extremely alarming!:D0 -

As has been pointed out several times - no it isn't and won't be for over 3 weeks!
