I am sat here watching my neighbour lug various santas and snowmen up onto his garage roof.He has a string of chasing rope lights round both top windows,a flashing santa climbing up a ladder by his front door,a snow blowy snowglobey thing next to his bay window plus two lit trees either side of his door.....and they're still coming.Let's see what the moany neighbour makes of that!:rotfl:
Any chance of a sneaky pic of this too so we can compare:D
  • Op for my 2 pence worth, i looked at your picture and have followed this thread from last night, on a personal level i'm not to sure about lights on house at all however if it makes your kids happy and in turn yourself then no one else should have any issues! plus espeically with a new baby on the way which i would imagine (please correct me if i'm wrong) will be hard for your son to deal with the change in the family when anything that helps is a good thing. Christmas is meant to be a fun time.

Only thing and i probably wouldnt do this myself but my oh would is explain to the nosey neighbour why you have them on and how it helps your son, if she has any manors or feelings she will feel really bad for making comments about them in the 1st place

hope you and your family have a lovely xmas

Thankyou..that's very sweet of you.Hope you have a fab christmas too xx

Someone said the neighbour might like to go to bed at 9 - well, clearly not if she's taking cups of tea or whatever out to her lodger at 11!

She sounds like one of these people who just moan for the sake of it. I like to go to bed quite early so lights flashing into my bedroom late at night would annoy me, but as for anything else, jings, live and let live!!!! Cannot understand the people who are saying they are glad they don't have anything like that "round here". What earthly difference does it make to them????

Good luck with the baby OP, and hope you and your family have a fun Christmas! x:)

  • OP the lights are not to my taste, there not as extreme as some of the houses on my street (across all the wall and drive space of 3 houses in a row, loads of different characters all mismatched).
That said I would not be rude enough to approach them and complain about it. It's their house, their taste, there choice how they decorate it.
You neighbour clearly has some issue with the lights, but has found her own solution by shutting the curtains. If this does not resolve her problem then she should make it more clear what the issue is and what resolution she feels is appropriate when approaching you.
Sounds to me like your neighbour was just having a moan for the sake of it.

It's always been a little treat on December evenings to stick the kids in the car in pj's and draped in a blanket and head for a particular street on the nearby council estate to see the Christmas lights! We play the Christmas CD and have a few sweets. Posh areas are rubbish for decorations!

We don't do the outside of our house because we're both scared of heights, but really appreciate the effort that other people make:)

She's just having a moan so don't let it get you down. She is clearly a snooper and can't be so nosy with her curtains drawn!

DH has always refused to put any outside our house but he has been and bought a strip of lights this year! :D 22 years after we married and I've finally won him round!! :j:j:j

Yesterday, I drove dd down a council estate road that is usually well lit up by now, but not one of them had their decs done yet. I'm hoping they are just late getting them done as we enjoy driving along and looking at the lights.

Nobody really bothers round here. :(

For those that have outdoor lights and decs, where do you plug them in?

We had them at our old place but we had several outdoor sockets installed from front to back so it was no hassle.

I see some wires going in windows in houses here, surely people don't leave their windows open 24/7? That would make for a breezy Xmas. :undecided

Just to pick up on this point..I've posted at least twice on here that my son has a sleep disorder too,so is not asleep at 10pm x

Honestly OP, I think the sleep disorder is a bit of a red herring. Being awake does not mean you need christmas lights on! If he was an insomniac and was awake till 3am would that mean it was ok to keep the lights on till 3am?

    6-9pm seems reasonable to me.

I would carry on and leave them up and put them on when you want to, it's Christmas for crying out loud, if she doesn't like them she doesn't have to look at them.
By the way i like them.
