can anyone tell me how long a credit card company has to register a default on a persons credit file as i think four years after the default must be wrong.
Six years from the date of default, when did this happen?

I was just coming to ask the same question as I want to apply for Abbey Zero card but I've recently closed two cards with substantial limits and don't know how long they will take to show up as settled on Experian.

About 4-6 weeks from date of settlement.

  • RBS seem to be a strange one....

It would appear that if you apply online (thru direct banking) for any credit product you will be searched against equifax there and then, and depending on that result given a rejection or agreement.

Sometimes though, for example for loans, if you then send in the paperwork, a further search against experian will be carried out.

I can confirm Abbey only use Experian.

Littlewoods definitely use Experian, no idea about Orange.
