  • recalc letters for all loans arrived this morning - one step closer :) Does anyone know if you have to pay tax on any £1200 default compensation amounts ? I know you do on explicit 8% interest amounts. Also, what's the tax amount if you are a low rate tax payer with no income ( am a student) Tks.

Hi, you only pay tax on the 8% amount.
If your earnings dont take you over your tax allowance for the year 2011 to 2012 you should not pay tax on this as your earnings have not taken you over the threshold for tax.
Give Inland Revenue a ring and they will tell you if you have to pay tax.
  • Nothing again today:mad:

I'm spending my life wrapped in a duvet sans heating, I take the duvet to my office and then home again. For Christmas, I'd hoped for a warm house, I'm waiting for a long delayed business payment too :(

Having received my offer letter in early August, I waited patiently until chasing in November. Lloyds said my payment had gone missing, but having read this thread, I suspect it was never processed. I have called every week since then at Lloyds request and apparently I'm in the priority queue. I am not a Lloyds customer any more.

The way people seem to be paid in batches, it is possible that Lloyds has a quarterly pot to spend and when it's gone, they stall for the next financial quarter apart from a few exceptional harship payments.

Hope your money turns up soon ewhetter and you have a warm Christmas.
  • Nothing for me either
  • Is the 8% interest received gross or net?

Gross. They say in the letter that you should declare the interest to the taxman.
