It doesn't matter what's on your computer - if you have an unencrypted wireless connection *any* information you send is readable by anybody.

I use a Wireless Netgear DG834G but do not have this password protected, does this mean its unencrypted?? sorry not too hot on my tech. Also if so does anyone know how to go about password protecting it, have tried but somewhere went seriously wrong and had to go back.

What do you mean? You can't download it or you can't install it once downloaded?
    Download from here http://free.grisoft.com/

Remember you can't have another antivirus program installed when you install one.

  • OK now I'm confused....
I have AVG free edition already and its been telling me that it runs out and I have to upgrade to AVG 8.0. So, can I download an update, or do I need to download a new version entirely (like do I delete the old one?)? Sorry this techie stuff confuses me.

Afraid you can, I'm certainly not going to pay hundreds purely based on supposedly better security when I've been using my present computer for donkey's years. How many serious security problems have I had? Zero. I may have had one or two viruses but that hardly constitutes a disturbance to my peace of mind or a serious problem. :rotfl:

Quite frankly if security is really that important in terms of down to what computer you buy then surely you're better off getting a linux pc anyway.

Sure I'd love a mac but it won't be because of "security" reasons. Funny how all the big security sectors don't even use macs (military etc).

Well, the better security is only one reason for owning a Mac, but it's certainly a nice benefit.

The US military uses quite a number of Apple computers. And "big security sectors" quite often use Mac OS X servers. When governments are after new computer systems, they go with the lowest bidder, which explains why government computer systems are so often totally crap. Personally, I'd much rather see governments using an open source OS like Linux, but that's another matter.

Anyhow, I don't want this to be a Mac vs. PC thread - there are enough of those on the internet already!
