Some frequent and respected posters on this forum do not like Rapport.
I've seen it said that it hogs resources. For a comparison, my Task Mgr reports (approx) memory usage:
Rapport 30,000K
Thunderbird 86,000K
Firefox 275,000K
I don't find it intrusive at all, once set up. However, HSBC have now introduced the keypad code inputs *sigh* which might save me a few bob cos it's such a blummin bind. Belt and braces, mustn't knock it0 -

Use 30 day trial before using your activation code
Untick auto-renewal
Then go to ebay and buy a single user upgrade for around £7.50 if the pennies are tight! I have used this for a few years now without any problems.
If you are using a Netbook then the free MSE or Avast is less memory hungry.Lavasoft has become too bloated these daysnever put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow0 -

The task manager is not the complete story, many of the slow computer threads have Rapport installed, it may be a coincidence. I know personally of a laptop which has run fine for just under 4 yrs without attention, once Rapport was installed it ground to a halt. Again could be a coincidence, I ran several malware scans, all were completely clear.
As an example of the debate Rapport seems to give rise to, see

I have Rapport installed with no noticeable impact on the computer's performance. Maybe it depends on the specifications of the computer as to whether a performance issue is noticed or not. I have a quad core 2.5GHz processor with 4GB of RAM installed.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0

Hi guys, Thought I'd share some wisdom about all this ant-virus, anti-malware nonsense. Basically it's all a pile of rubbish and a complete waste of money. Now before hundreds of Microsoft Certified (So-Called) Professionals leap in and tell me that I'm wrong I have to say it's takes more than a multiple choice exam to be an IT Engineer.
Having now been a geek since MS-DOS, long before Windows and high tech things like TCP/IP networking, surviving a 21 year IT career I've really had enough of reading the crap posted on here.
All that the software that the average home user installs, giving the illusion of a protected system, just slows your PC down to the speed of a mobility scooter. It is really a total waste of time. The free stuff is rubbish and just a con to get you paranoid and take out a subscription and after you have paid your money it still does not really work.
As a person who hacked  into the social security system of a scandinavian country and downloaded the entire social security database I can reassure you that you are being totally ripped off.
The short version is that most hackers won't get further than the BT exchange let alone get into your computer. Virus software whatever the new name or type can only get onto your PC if it is INVITED. No ant-virus software in the world can stop this if the you let it in the door.
The best defence is to educate yourself and stay away from the obvious situation where you are fooled into opening that special attachment or clicking on that enticing link. For the internet it has always been the same: use the X-Files theory - Trust No One.
For myself I have not used any of that waste of time software for over 15 years with no problems and only rebuild the home network when a new version of Windows hits the market.
So for all the poor people running handicapped computers remove all the rubbish anti-virus software and just use the most powerful computer in the known universe: your brain.

And therein lies the problem - most computer users do NOT have extensive IT knowledge and need to be saved from themselves - social engineering is still the most effective attack vector. So internet security suites serve a useful purpose in removing many means of enabling social engineering (dodgy attachments, phishing links, web page scanning for pages that contain browser exploits, etc.)
YOU, and many others, may know how to avoid such things. Joe Average doesn't have a clue and so needs saving from himself.
PS - Avast here (and MBAM for the odd scan).0 -

You are absolutely correct and all the basic tools you need are built into Windows or are free from microsoft. I just do not believe that joe average needs to spend his hard earned cash on extra software that is nothing more than a security blanket.
Was employed to test security at the glorious NHS and I Mitnick'ed my way into PIMS by pretending to be a doctor after begging the desktop guy to give me his domadmin password, used a sequel attack to download all the patient records! So even I.T. guys can be fooled.
