Nothing, but I have a mac. But having said that, the inbuilt firewall and firewall on my AirPort Extreme are both enabled.0

Macs are not ignored by the baddies these days, so it might be as well to speak to others on a Mac forum about the best security measures to adopt.

In the two years I've owned my MacBook Pro I've never had a problem.0 -
I've never had any problems with AVG to be fair0

Using Avast 6, with routers inbuilt firewall and Windows firewall. Periodically run Superantispyware, malwarebytes and spybot. Windows 7 fully updated, Ccleaner run, and a registry checking tool from eusing.
I use those too, except Spybot and the eusing reg. 'checker'?.
I used to have Spybot S&D, but forget why I don't anymore.. it probably wasn't compatible with Win7 when I got it.. I see that it is now, so maybe I'll get it again.
Just had a quick look at eusing's reg. cleaner. Might try it out, just because I like trying out new stuff. Just a quick question before I do.. Are you aware that Ccleaner has a reg. cleaner? What's the difference between the two?
Thanks0 -

What is the end result you are hoping for with all this registry cleaning?
I can tell you what's similar between both products: both are unnecessary in day-to-day maintenance, neither will bring any noticeable performance improvements 99% of the time, and both can cause trouble when they are too aggressive in cleaning (even CCleaner after 3.03 can be a bit over-aggressive).
You might not notice the problems introduced by registry cleaners straight away, or even realise they were caused by registry cleaning when you do, e.g. mysterious errors such as problems running or uninstalling software, or certain functions in programs not working correctly.
Unless someone has a specific problem that doesn't require a reinstall, then using a registry cleaner without a purpose will only increase the chances of causing a problem (without any upside).0 -

I very rarely clean the registry. I'd been using Ccleaner for quite some time before I even realised that it had a reg. cleaner. I've used it maybe 4 times since then.. It's certainly not part of 'day-to-day' maintenance. Yes, Ccleaner can cause problems, but I haven't tweaked it at all i.e. have left it on default settings, and it hasn't caused any problems for me: I last used it a few months ago, so I think I'd have noticed by now
It's just nice to have something new to play with every now and then0 -

Then just reboot.
A load less risky than tinkering with a registry cleaner.:DMove along, nothing to see.0 -

I can second this being a Mac user for over 2 years, never had an issue, however the odd time id use my old PC for a few months i did notice some difference.veronarona wrote: »Macs are not ignored by the baddies these days, so it might be as well to speak to others on a Mac forum about the best security measures to adopt.

I completely agree, Its great that Mac are becoming more of a house hold item and not just the Microsoft monopoly however as always popularity comes with a price you just have to remind yourself of the recent MAC Defender malware drama.Le Signature0 -
