AV recommendation: MS Essentials - small footprint, light on resources and free. Gets 4/5 in most reviews

Spyware/Malware: Malwarebytes - small footprint, light on resources and again free version available.
I'll agree with that :T Along with Spybot S&D and CCleaner you can't go wrong. :)

  • I use a free one actually, AVG and it works fine. Whilst it is great to have all the best online protection, if you are careful about where you shop, browse and what emails you open, you are not as prone to attracting virus attention.

Also protect yourself by using different passwords and dont give away too much on forums etc

    Zonealarm Internet Security
    Malwarebytes
    Spybot
    Roboform for my passwords

The only time I've had an issue with the above set of products is when I installed some software that contained a virus and ignored the warnings of Zonealarm thinking they were over reacting. Otherwise 100% happy and been 100% virus free for years.

Kaspersky Pure, bought for £20, data encription for banking was essentil to me. Nice and easy and after 3 weeks on a new pc seems to work fine. Runs alongside Malwarebytes with no issues:T

Firewall: from a corporate standpoint hardware in router is the prefered choice. Software wise most free firewall products are good (Zonealarm et al)]

I used to use Zonealarm but now rely on the windows firewall. Is this wise? I found I had issues with Zonealarm and tried some others but have reverted to the windows built in firewall. Still a bit nervous tho'.

Windows firewall with Vista and Win7 is fine, and in the vast majority of cases it's still fine with XP.
    Move along, nothing to see.
