Has anybody tried Ashampoo anti-malware, (anti-spyware and antivirus)?

Had an email for 5 full free products including this. Link here.

I'm currently using the excellent avast free, but wondered if anyone had an experience of Ashampoo anti-malware? Its ususally $39.99, so am thinking of trying, but loathe to ditch avast.

Thanks for some major input candtalan. You have described what I was trying to say far more effectively and accurately.
Perhaps my enthusiasm for the subject prevented me from typing 'Virtually virus proof'. But, as I mentioned I've used Ubuntu for almost 5 yrs without protection.

Your'e welcome. I am a serious Ubuntu user too, and have not used Windows for about 6 years now. I started leaving Windows for the reason of uncertain security - even though I spent a lot of effort on my PC, I was still unsure what it was doing, what was going on in the PC.

It was the security thing which first moved me away from Windows, but as time passed, I found I enjoyed using the Ubuntu machine! I also found I liked the the Community and the strongly ethical basis of software libre.

There is no way I would now want to return to using Windows, not a chance. I have sometimes thought about it, even if GNU/Linux were to be inferior to Windows, and if Windows were more secure also, I would still not want to use Windows, (or other proprietary, secret, software).

The ethics of the free software movement are pretty sound, if sometimes inconvenient.

Thanks for the link! Downloaded each, will check out reviews for them later. Perhaps the anti-malware portion can run alongside the AV, I'll have to check later.

I won't necessarily even use or install anything in case they are bloaty, but worth a look.

    Nice post candtalan, #2142, :T

re. knowing where to download from, have you noticed how often we see people on here with problems being given links to programs to help them.

They then manage to download the 'registry cleaner',;) much better the Linux repositories system.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Do you think its worth it Russ. Seems to have decent reviews, although I'm wary of the internet accelerator, as from my experience can sometimes make your connection slower.

Oh stuff it, I'm going to try them all too. I'd only downloaded the HDD control as that looked useful. Cheers!

Oh I've only downloaded them, but I won't install anything until I can make sure I can undo any changes they've made. I've got a recent hard drive clone (using clonezilla) so at worst I can just reimage my HDD.

They all have the potential to make everything worse for sure. I prefer lightweight utilities, like TCP Optimiser http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php normally, but it doesn't hurt every so often to try new things.

I''ve got Paragon Drive Backup professional (which I got gratuis somewhere! :D). Think I'll make a disk image , before installing/using this software. Always better safe, than sorrry! :)
