When you come to remove it use the Norton removal tool

Buy Kaspersky (From amazon or wherever, never direct due to the price)

Thanks for your swift reply - much appreciated. Could you please clarify the difference between the internet security and total 360 software?

    Thanks

    You mean Kaspersky internet security?
Assuming you do then they both do the same, only Kaspersky does a much better job of it

Make sure they use FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin instead

She should have been, as I opened Firefox, and got the website up for her. I think she must have clicked on something which opened up IE.

When she uses the Kidzui plugin, I disable Noscript as it causes problems, and haven't had any trouble with that. I forgot to turn it back on again before letting her use Firefox. :o I don't know how IE came up, she must have accidentally clicked on something.

Hi Sublime, I'm actually quite impressed with the Windows 7 firewall (especially when compared to that which existed in XP). I know we have discussed this before but my online protection is much the same as yours - except I don't have installed BetterPrivacy or Sandboxie. In addition, I have tried MSE but I still prefer and trust Avast (been using it consistently for nearly five years). I agree: give Avast another try; it just gets better and better and better IMO in its detection rate (and version 5 now officially out of beta)

I also still have installed SpyBot and Windows Defender: people here have mixed feelings about these two I understand;).

Not something I wish to install myself but is http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/free-download.html an option for you?

    HTH.

Thanks. My gut feeling was to back to avast, as I always liked it before. The Comodo has had mixed reviews. Its supposed to be good, but I've heard people have had trouble uninstalling it. I may even go for a paid for version of Kaspersky internet security as its on sale for £23.21 on Amazon.

Agreed, merely offering Sublime an alternative to his dislike of Windows firewall ;)

Thanks for all your replies. :D

Aside from that, a firewall isnt going to stop the computer getting infected via a webpage

I had hoped MSE would do the trick, in conjunction with what I've got. Adaware free used to be excellent at stopping things, but the anniversary edition was such a system hog that I haven't bothered with since. I've used Threatfire, but I found that used to cause slow downs.

I tried Prevx free, as its supposed to be light on resources, but got paranoid when Dr Web kept flagging it as suspicious, and possibly a Trojan. I'm sure that was a false positive which Dr web is prone to, as I've heard its supposed to be good.

None of those programs would stop all web based infections either
All you can do is use firefox with noscript or sandboxie

I would teach her not to use IE if it pops up personally

I've tried, but she's 5. I usually get something along the lines of, " Somethings happened to your computer mummy, I didn't do anything!" :rotfl:

I'll make sure she uses a sandboxed web browser, as I rather stupidly hadn't thought of doing it for her, although I do occasionally.

I've also bought a 1Tb Seagate backup drive which I only recieved yesterday, so I will be making regular disk images from now on, so hopefully sorted.

I will definitely be changing back to Avast as its an old favourite, and never let me down, also tempted by Kaspersky Internet Security, but I'll see how I get again with just avast. I wish Jetico was still free, that was excellent. Too pricey for me unfortunately.
