I have Windows 7.
My wireless router has its own firewall and i also have Windows 7 firewall switched on.
I use AVG Free version 9, which has the Anitvirus, Anti Spyware, Link scanner, eMail scanner and resident shield.
I think it's great and i'm seriously considering subscribing.
My web browser is Mozilla Firefox v3.6 and i have 'Adblock' and some other plug-ins.
So far i haven't had 'one' virus, ad-ware or spyware, no problems other than the resident shield does slow things down a little bit.0 -

I look after my families 6 PCs, running a variety of linux distributions and windows xp & 7, I have the basic router firewall and windows firewall enabled but no Virus checkers installed. I have ClamWin portable on my memory stick to scan the PCs every so often but there is never anything serious, just the odd tracking cookie. I occasionally run AdAware and that says the same.
We all know what to kind of stuff to avoid and all our important data is on a linux based network attached hard disk (plus backed up elsewhere) so I can't recommend this for everyone but our PCs run so much faster once you uninstall the Norton trial new computers all seem to come with.0 -
Alienrik.
It's that technophobe again! When you say in your instructions -everything highlighted, right click and copy. Then onto here-right click and paste'. When you say 'onto here' do you mean consumer site or my own messages and post on my own computer? If it on this consumer site where is the message/post. I've done what you said but couldn't find where it went.0 -
Sorry, I forgot to tell you what I paid for the Antivir. It was priced in dollars so was $79.95 which I think is about £55. I'm surprised that the genuine Antivir can't do anything about their name being used in this way. It must be really upsetting for them and must be losing them a lot of business and goodwill. Will the Malwarebytes not protect my computer or would you advise me to add Microsoft as well?0

After Trojans attacks/keylogger/Spyware and my Bank and credit card accounts being raped - and I was running Kasperski AV, zoneAlarm, Spybot, and more I gave up on windows!
A year ago I got Linux, Ubuntu and wow surfing the web has never been this easy with MicroSoft.
I still use Windows Xp but it NEVER sees the outside world!
Yes I run Linux Firewall, ClamAV, AppArmour, and antiRootKit but after 12 months, nothing, not a single attempt. It's just a joy to use and costs NOTHING!

It would be best if you could copy & paste the stuff aLienRIK wanted in a new post, so don't put here as it will get lost with other posters replies.
So start a new thread (Just press the "new thread" button) on the Techie forum, title your new thread something like "Help with Malwarebytes log file please" and cpoy & paste the log file in the message box.
I really don't think there is much you can do about getting your money back especially if you paid with a DD card, what you should do is to either go into your bank or phone them and explain to them what has happened and see if they can help you about the payment you made on the DD card.
Just tell your bank that you have been conned out of your money.
You will need both a malware scanner and a anitivirus scanner so Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.
As you have already paid a lot for a bogus antivirus programme that will not work and is causing problems for your computer then I think we should be looking at some of the free security software that you can use and you don't need to pay for, ideally the software should be efficient and easy to use without being complicated.0 -
I'm still being a pain and sowing just how much of a technophobe I am, but I'm still not sure how to copy and paste to a different site! Is there some sort of wizard that will guide me through it as I'm going along?0

To copy, select the text you want by holding down the left button on your mouse and dragging over it untill all the text turns dark blue.
Let go of the left button on your mouse.
Right click (just click don't hold down)with your mouse button on the highlighted dark blue text and select "copy" from the options.
To paste, left click your mouse button where you want to put your text and right click your mouse button and select "paste" from the options.
Here's a simple demo that you can try........
