    The ones found were:

    c\windows\system32\java.exe

    c\program files\quicktime\quic...

    c\program files\common files\...

    c\program files\java\jare1.6.6_o...

javas will be trojans/viruses and must be removed
quicktime ~ not sure but nothing to panic over
common files, without the rest I have no clue

  • I've now got the Kaspersky protecting my laptop. When I did a scan it found some dangerous items which I'm not too sure wether to disinfect or quarantine as McAfee never gave me those options.

    The ones found were:

    c\windows\system32\java.exe

    c\program files\quicktime\quic...

    c\program files\common files\...

    c\program files\java\jare1.6.6_o...

They all show as very dangerous, but as I'm not sure what they are or what they do I'm worried about actions to take.
Any help will be very much appreciated as usual...

I think that these are software vulnerabilities rather than viruses. Kaspersky is telling you that some of your applications are out of date which could compromise your security. Common ones are Java runtime, Adobe Flash and Firefox. This is an extract from Kaspersky help -

"The tab contains a list of vulnerabilities, detected in the programs. Use the Details button to open the www.viruslist.com site and view threat description. There you can also use links to critical fixes, download and install the necessary update for your version of the application"

If you have any problems updating, post the application paths on here for us to have a look at

Library uses websense, i find it completley blocks facebook once per week at least, then the library staff have to phone their main office tech guys to get it sorted out, i find it just too aggressive.

Also it block out kung fu sites and forums "Weapons in filtered" and some scuba diving sites and swimming sites "Swimwear is filtered" i don't think there is a need for all the blocking, just leaves me 1 option of getting my own PC or laptop instead and my own internet.

You should realy worry if the founder of your art was called Toshitsugu Takamatsu never gets past the filters.

After installing win 7 64 bit, I'm unable to use online armour, and have just been using windows firewall.

I'm not impressed. My 5 year old was on CBBC, and somehow something nasty came through in IE which MBAM, and HJT caught . I seem to have got rid of it, but I need something else.

I'm using MS Essentials, Spyware Blaster, Firefox with noscript, AdBlock Plus, BetterPrivacy, etc. Plus Sandboxie sometimes.

Any suggestions would be welcome. I don't like windows firewall, and preferred online armour. Not too happy MS essentials didn't pick it up.

I'm thinking of trying either CIS, or going back to avast, but stuck on the firewall as I used to use Jetico when it was free.

    Any suggestions please?

Hi Sublime, I'm actually quite impressed with the Windows 7 firewall (especially when compared to that which existed in XP). I know we have discussed this before but my online protection is much the same as yours - except I don't have installed BetterPrivacy or Sandboxie. In addition, I have tried MSE but I still prefer and trust Avast (been using it consistently for nearly five years). I agree: give Avast another try; it just gets better and better and better IMO in its detection rate (and version 5 now officially out of beta)

I also still have installed SpyBot and Windows Defender: people here have mixed feelings about these two I understand;).

Not something I wish to install myself but is http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/free-download.html an option for you?

    HTH.

Aside from that, a firewall isnt going to stop the computer getting infected via a webpage

Agreed, merely offering Sublime an alternative to his dislike of Windows firewall ;)
