What's the difference in quality/features between free Zone Alarm and the pay for one? Logically there has to be some improvement or the co would be bust??
Is it possible btw to totally uninstall NAV 2005/6 (I forget) and install ZA or will I crash my hdd? I heard that 'add and remove programs > NAV" isn't enough. If anyone can help can they p.m me as this is not a money saving issue, other than the money it will cost me should I crash my hdd ;-S
Spybot picks up stuff it can't nuke. Assume free adaware can run simultaneously with no tech problems?0 -
Nav should uninstall with no problems, worse case there are tools on the site to do it for you if it fails
Za will work fine then

Bring on the hackers :P0 -
I'm lucky as I get free AV software... well my job is running the support team for one of the worlds largest AV software companies... there aren't many perks but free AV software is one
Hall of shame moment for me? to not think when I once rebuilt my pc and I connected to the internet before I had installed my AV (to get the windows updates) and it took 1 minute flat and I had lsass worm on it... Guess who had slightly more sympathy for customers for a week or two
As for an unproected machine connected to the web for more thana day let alone YEARS with no infection? Not a chance! Sorry but nope! And I really DO know what I am talking about hereDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

In the world we live in today of viruses, worms, spyware, hackers, spam, adware, malware etc I dont know how people can use a computer without security on it. The next release of windows; 'Windows Vista' should help protect more "novice" users from being infected. The operating system is being described as the next generation of OS, but with that comes the next generation of internet threats, what will they think of next?!
Who knows :eek:0 -

Windows XP SP2 - has built in firewall, then I use Sygate and have Linksys router which acts as Hardware Firewall.
I have closed all ports except for one.
I use this site http://grc.com to test the security
For Antivirus - I use AVG
For Spyware Removal - I use XOFTSpy
For General PC Maintenance - I use System Mechanic:hello:

Shopping Tips
Don't spend five pounds to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the charity shop instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for two pounds.0
